Medical Sociology
Medical sociology is the sociology analysis of the social cause and consequences of
health and illness.This filed commonly interacts with the sociology of knowledge,science
and technology studies.Its main interest is in the study of health,health behaviour and
medical itstutions.Illness is viewed not only as a medical problems but also psychological
and social problem.Medical sociology is the sociological analysis of health and
medicine.Specializing as a medical sociologist helps the healthcare system examining
and improving health care outcome.
The myth of role of medicine
Myth is a folklore genre consisting of narratives or story that play a fundamental role in a
society. Myth is widely held but often false belif or idea.
The study of myth is called mythology.
Examples: Vaccination can cause flu, supplements always make the body healthier, cold
weather makes you sick, people should need to drink 8 glasses of water in a day.
Illness and behaviour
Illness behaviour is a kind of behaviour undertaken by a patient who feels ill, to define the state of
his health and to discover a remedy.
Examples: Sleep disturbance, hyperalgesia, anorexia, fatigue etc. There are also some infectious
disease symptoms such as influnza.

Ethnicity/ethnic group are term for ascribed identity bestowed on groups/catagories defined by their distinctive
cultural attributes such as – language & religion. They are frequently, but not necessarily ranked within their
society/country.
Ageing is the process of becoming older.The turm refers especially to human being,also to many
animals and fungi whereas for example bacteria,perennial plants and some simple animels and
potentially biologically immortal.

CONCEPT OF RATIONING OF HEALTH-CARE
It is difficult to provide health care services to all those in need of such services due to limited
resources and unlimited demands. Thus, priority setting and rationing have to be applied. This
study aimed at critically examining the concept of rationing in health sector and identifying its
purposes, influencing factors, mechanisms, and outcomes.Health services rationing means
restricting the access of some people to useful or potentially useful health services due to
budgetary limitation. The inherent features of the health. Rationing can be applied in 4 levels:
health care policy-makers, health care managers, health care providers, and patients: Health
care rationing can be accomplished through fixed budget, benefit package, payment
mechanisms, queuing, copayments, and deductibles.
