4.1 Introductory Activity The teacher flashes a short story entitled "Mang Ador" and let the pupils read it.

Let the pupils spell the following words:

4.2 Activity Let the pupils read another short story and answer some follow-up questions.
Ask the following questions:
1. Who are the characters in the story?
2. Where do you think they were going?
3. How does Nick feel on that day?
4. If you were Nick, would you also feel the same way? Why?

Let the pupils name all the characters of the two short stories read a while ago.
Tell them to classify if its a boy or girl.

Show the following sentences:


1. Mang Ador is a carpenter. He is fifty years old.
2. Nick is very happy. He is very excited.
3. Nick's mother looks at him. She smiles. She is happy.

Explain that in sentence no. 1 and 2, the underlined word "He" refers to Mang Ador and Nick while in sentence
no. 3 the underlined word "She" refers to Nick's mother.
In other words we are going to use the word HE when we are referring to a boy or a man while we use the word
SHE when we are referring to a girl or woman. Thus, these words are called PRONOUNS
