Control Settings
The setup instructions provided in the sections that follow are applicable to multiple
monitor display models. Methods of adjusting the resolution vary depending on the
operating system or graphic adapter used.
NOTE: Some LCD monitors have built-in ambient light sensors on the front of the
display. To disable this feature use the front menu control buttons to select the
“AUTO BRIGHTNESS” selection and set it to “OFF”. Refer to the monitors user
manual for specific instructions.
Recommended Resolution
The table defines the recommended resolution for different monitor models. If the
video graphic adapter supports the recommended (native) resolution in its list of
supported resolutions, it should be used. In cases where the recommended resolution
is not available, use the setting closest to the ideal value. The monitor displays an
acceptable video image, but not at its highest clarity. Monitors work best when their
associated graphic adapters are set to the resolutions described in the table. Other
resolutions work but may not appear as crisp and clear on the display and may not fill
the screen.
See the applicable station User’s Guide for information on configuring video of
supported video cards.
Set the monitor’s resolution by doing one of the following:
• Using the graphics adapter interface, such as “Nvidia Control Panel” or “Matrox
PowerDesk”
• Using the systems “Control Panel”, “Display” features for adjusting the resolution

NOTE:
It is inadvisable to disconnect the digital video cables from the NVIDIA graphics
card (or any other graphics card with a DisplayPort connection) during system
operations on a running system. Disconnecting the cable from either the computer
end or the monitor end will cause video resolution problems. The NVIDIA graphics
card will dynamically reset the driver configuration, resulting in a video frame
buffer size that exceeds the monitor resolution. Disconnecting the video cable on
a running system will have a negative effect on the operation of the H92
workstation, an H90 server, or a V91 server.
• Do not mix 23-inch touchscreen monitors with any other size monitors.
• The mixing of monitors with different aspect ratios is not supported.
• The following instructions assume that there are two active video sources on
the workstation. Software driver installation and activation instructions for a
second video head are not included in this document. Refer to the Hardware
and Software Specific Instructions document for your workstation or server
model.
• Digital video (DVI) cables cannot be greater than 9 m (29 ft) in length without
using Remote Graphic Units (RGUs) that can extend digital video up to 5km,
(3.1 miles) via a fiber optic link on selected processors.
• DisplayPort (DP) video cables cannot be greater than 3 m (10 ft) in length
without using Remote Graphics Unit (RGUs) that can extend digital video up
to 5km (3.1 miles) via a fiber optic link on selected processors.
Video Mode
Some of the newer models of LCD monitors may be operated in either an analog or
digital video mode; you must decide which mode to use. The mode selected affects
the type of video cable and the cable length between the workstation and the monitor.
LCD monitors are inherently digital devices. Analog input signals are converted to
digital signals within the monitor. Digital video signals give the best possible picture
because errors in the D/A conversion on the graphic adapter end and the A/D
conversion on the monitor end are eliminated as are signal reflections within the
cable. Because there is no analog transmission between the adapter and the monitor,
the noise and skew that the analog world is subject to is eliminated. Therefore, it is
suggested that you consider using the digital mode wherever possible.
Because of the high bandwidth required by digital signals, Foxboro supports only a
limited length of transmission distances for both DVI (9 m (29 ft)) and DisplayPort
cables (3 m (10 ft)). If video cable lengths of greater than these distances are needed,
there are two options. Analog VGA signals with passive analog cables may be used
up to 30 m (100 feet) or the Remote Graphic Units (RGUs) that will extend all of the
human interface devices, including digital video, up to 5km (3.1 miles) via a fiber optic
link on selected processors with Windows operating systems. This 30 m (100 ft)

analog video connection will only operate when the Foxboro P/N RH924DF or
P0924DF 30 m (100 ft) VGA cable is used in conjunction with the Foxboro P/N
P0928DL DisplayPort to VGA adapter is used. The P0971DY 30 m (100 ft) analog
cable will not function correctly. If the 15 m (50 ft) analog cable is used, part numbers
must be RH924DE or P0924DE. The P0971DX cable will not function correctly.
The 23" monitors come with P0972KQ and P0972VR (or their equivalent). Either a
VGA or DVI Display Adapter is required unless explicitly specifying one of the
DisplayPort cables listed in DisplayPort Video Cables (DP).
The tables list the analog and digital cables available.
Choosing a Resolution
The instructions for setting resolutions differ depending on the model of the
workstation or server and the graphics adapter used.
Configuring Monitor
Refer to the hardware and software specific instructions document shipped with your
workstation or server for information on configuring video of supported video cards.
A monitors resolution can be set using these methods:
• Using the graphics adapter interface, such as “Nvidia Control Panel” or “Matrox
PowerDesk”
• Using the systems “Control Panel”, “Display” features for adjusting the resolution

The hardware and software specific instructions detail procedures for video
configurations such as:
• Single head
• Dual head
• Quad head
The current Dual and Quad video Matrox RGUs support DisplayPort video output
connections only. The part number for the Dual Matrox RGU kit is RH103DX. The part
number for the Quad Matrox RGU kit is RH103EA. Neither the transmitter or receiver
are interchangeable with the old Matrox RGU assemblies. These units are supported
on H90 model server and H92 workstation.
NOTICE
POTENTIAL DATA LOSS
Do not change connectors/connections while the Matrox RGU transmitter and
receiver are powered on.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in data loss.

NOTE: For thin clients, do not perform step one in the following procedure, as
Control Core Services or I/A Series software is not installed on thin clients. Thin
clients require the external USB DVD drive to load this software; this DVD drive is
described in Thin Client User’s Guide (B0700VN).
Before installing a USB touchscreen driver and utilities, perform these steps:
1. Begin the installation by deselecting automatic logon to Control Core Services or
I/A Series software.
2. Shut down, then restart the workstation or server.
3. For workstations where USB is not enabled in the BIOS:
a. To verify that the BIOS is configured correctly with USB functionality turned
on, press the appropriate function key (listed in your workstation’s Hardware
and Software Specific Instructions document) during the reboot to enter into
the workstations BIOS screen.
b. Enable the USB ports in the BIOS following the instructions in the hardware
and software specific instructions document shipped with your workstation.
c. Log off and shut down the workstation.
4. Physically connect the monitor’s video cable. But, do not connect the USB
touchscreen controller USB cable to one of the workstation’s USB ports at this
time. You will be instructed to connect the USB cable immediately after the USB
Touchscreen installation (see Installing, Setting Up and Calibrating Windows
Workstation USB Touchscreen for Widescreen LCD Monitors, page 11).
5. Restart the workstation or server.
6. Close all open windows or applications prior to loading the machine with the
TouchWare USB touchscreen driver CD.

2. The installation process starts with the Welcome screen. Click Next to continue.
3. When the 3M Software License Agreement dialog box appears, scroll to the
bottom of the license agreement and click “I accept the agreement,” and then
click Next to continue.

5. In the Setup Type dialog box, select Custom and click Next.

9. On completing the MT 7.13.22 for Windows Setup Wizard dialog box, click
Finish.
NOTE: Prior to setting up and configuring the driver, connect the USB
touchscreen controller cable to the workstation.

Calibrating Touchscreens
These notes pertain to touchscreen calibration for the widescreen LCD touchscreen
monitors:
• In multiple monitor touchscreen configurations, make sure the display resolution
is the same on all the touchscreen monitors prior to starting the calibration
process.
• In multiple touchscreen monitor configurations, calibration is required only on the
first touch screen monitor.
• If you press Escape or do not touch the screen within twenty seconds, the
system automatically cancels the calibration process with no change to the
current settings.
• When touching the calibration target, make sure you face the monitor directly,
perform the calibration in the position (sitting or standing) from which you expect
to normally use the touchscreen, and touch the calibration target firmly and
precisely with your fingertip. Be careful to keep your other fingers away from the
touchscreen as you touch the target.

Touch Modes
The available Touch Mode options are Drawing, Touchdown, and Liftoff.
Mode Description
Drawing Mode (Default Drawing Mode is most useful for draw, paint, illustration, and graphics applications. In
Value) Drawing Mode, a touch is equivalent to pressing and holding down the mouse button.
This is considered the easiest mode to use with an immediate reaction to touch. Lifting
off is equivalent to releasing the mouse button.
• To click, touch the object. Lift off the touchscreen.
• To double-click; touch the object twice quickly at the same location.
• To drag, touch the object. Slide your finger to the new location. Lift off the
touchscreen.
Touchdown Mode Touchdown Mode enables you to create an immediate button action as soon as you
touch the touchscreen. In Touchdown Mode, you cause a button down at the cursor
location, with a short pause and then a button up. You can leave your finger on the
touchscreen but only a single touch is registered until you lift your finger off the
touchscreen and touch down again.
Touching the touchscreen is equivalent to pressing and releasing the mouse button.
The action occurs as soon as you touch the touchscreen. This mode is best for button-
based applications (like a calculator). Drawing or dragging is not supported in this
mode.
Liftoff Mode Liftoff Mode enables you to position the cursor where you want before creating a button
action. In Liftoff Mode, the cursor will follow your finger for a more accurate touch. When
you want to select an item, lifting your finger off the touchscreen will cause a button
down, short pause, and then a button up to occur.
Touching the touchscreen is equivalent to moving the mouse position. The button down/
button up action occurs when you remove your finger from the touchscreen. This mode
is useful for applications requiring greater accuracy because it lets you carefully position
the cursor before acting on it. Drawing or dragging is not supported in this mode.
Touch Sound Select audible beep on touchdown, liftoff, or no beep at all. Click on the Beep button to
select the appropriate option for your application. The default setting is no beep on
touch (Beep off).
Double-click Speed Double-click speed defines how quickly you must touch the touchscreen for the system
to interpret your actions as a double-click. Set the double-click speed in the slow to
medium range for optimum performance with a touchscreen.
Touch the globe twice to test the double-click speed and area settings. If the globe
begins to spin, the touchscreen recognized your touch as a double-click.
Double-click Area The “double-click area” defines the space in which you must touch the touchscreen for
the system to interpret your actions as a double-click. Set the double-click area in the
medium to high range for optimum performance with a touchscreen.
Touch the globe twice to test the double-click speed and area settings. If the globe
begins to spin, the touchscreen recognized your touch as a double-click.
NOTE: Changing the double-click speed or the double-click area setting will affect
the double-click setting of the mouse.
Edge Adjustment Tab Once you calibrate the touchscreen, the cursor should be located directly beneath your
finger when you touch the touchscreen. However, this may make it difficult to touch
items at the very edges of the touchscreen. The Edge Adjustment tab enables you to
define an offset area in which the cursor moves closer to the edges of the sensor so you
can easily and more precisely select small items, such as single words, the Windows
Start button, check boxes, or radio buttons.
For example, if you have a row of buttons along the left edge of your touchscreen, you
may want to set an edge adjustment to enable users to easily activate these buttons.

Mode Description
Because each edge is independent of the other, you only need to adjust the left margin
to accommodate this row of buttons.
Edge Adjustment To set the Edge Adjustment, move the sliders inward to define the offset area. These
Setting changes take effect immediately. Click Test to preview your choices. The area you have
defined appears as a colored area below. Within this colored area, the cursor will
automatically move ahead of your finger so you can more easily touch items closer to
the edge.
Determine if the area you have defined is sufficient for your needs. Can you touch into
the comers and along the edges of the touchscreen? Click Escape, End Test, or
Return to go back to the Edge Adjustment tab. If you are satisfied with the selections
you have made, you are done. If not, adjust the sliders to better accommodate your
needs.
Tools Tab The Tools tab enables you to perform a variety of diagnostics to optimize the
performance of your touchscreen. This tab is also the gateway to advanced touch
options.
Component Versions This is an informational screen for diagnostic purposes that details the building blocks of
MT 7 and its version numbers.
Draw Test
NOTE: You must be in Draw mode for this to work properly.
The Draw program lets you test the operation of the touchscreen and pen by checking
the accuracy and speed with which the system responds to your touch. To draw, simply
touch the touchscreen and drag your finger or pen.
These options will help you use the draw program more effectively:
• Press B (blank) to clear the screen and display a blank drawing canvas.
• Press G (grid) to clear the screen and display a grid that you can use as a drawing
guide (default setting).
• Press L (line) to draw solid lines on the screen (default setting).
• Press D (dots) to draw dotted lines on the screen, where each dot represents a
point reported by the touchscreen.
• Press the Space Bar to clear the display.
Restore Factory The Reset Software option is useful if you have reconfigured the MT 7 software and
Settings Software need to get back to a working state. This option will restore supplier factory
configuration settings. If none exist, it will reset to the 3M Touch System defaults.
Controller The Restore Controller option is useful if you have reconfigured the controller and need
to get back to a working state. Pressing this button restores the 3M Touch System
factory-set system defaults.
If after restoring controller factory defaults, you lose touch, you will need to reboot in
order to restore touch.
NOTE: You must perform a calibration after restoring controller defaults.
Reset Controller Use this only at the direction of Global Customer Support. This command initializes the
hardware and the firmware, causes the controller to stop sending data, and recalculates
the environmental conditions (for example, stray and offset values). The Reset
command also cancels existing commands and returns the controller to normal
operation.
Advanced Touch
NOTE: Executing the Advanced Options may alter the performance of your

touchscreen or render it inoperable. You should be aware of expected results before
executing any option. If you are not familiar with the outcome of these settings, you
should not be using these options.
This option controls certain advanced functions for your controller. Depending on the
options you have selected and the availability of that function for your given controller,
you can choose certain Advanced Options from this screen:

Mode Description
• Enable manual linearization (only for EX, CX and some RX series controllers)
• Enable pen/finger selection (only for SX controllers)
• Enable frequency selection (only for EX and CX capacitive controllers)
• Enable controller identifier editing (helpful in multiple display setups)
These settings are discussed in the next sections.
Controller Tab The Controller tab contains different choices depending on the type of touch controller
(s) you have attached to your system and which options you selected from the
Advanced Options from the Tools tab.
Controller Type If you have more than one controller attached to your system, this field displays the
controller currently selected on the Main tab. This data may be useful for Global
Customer Support issues. The touch controllers supported with this release are:
• EX USB, HID, and Serial capacitive and resistive controllers
• CX USB controllers
• DX Dual mode (USB and Serial) controllers
• PX Dual mode (USB and Serial) controllers
• RX USB and Serial resistive controllers
• SX Serial pen controllers
Depending on the options you have selected and the availability of that function for your
controller, these items may appear:
• Linearization
• Sensor Frequency
• Pen/Finger Selection
• Controller ID
