SERVICE AMENDMENT LEAFLET No. 03/16

This SAL affects AEW-2-23-2, Section 8
1. Introduction and General Warnings and Safety Precautions
a. SAL 03/16 – Re-issue and update of SAL 02/2015 - Introduction of Enhanced Joint
Tactical Terminal (JTT). Integrated Broadcast System (IBS) – Upgrade of hardware and
software to sustain operational capability.
b. The Sentry AEW Mk1 was originally fitted with the JTT system to receive IBS-Simplex
(IBS-S) broadcasts under SEM/SENTRY/138 and underwent subsequent upgrades;
SEM/SENTRY/162, SM/SENTRY/169, SM/Sentry/201 and SM/Sentry/226.
c. SM/Sentry/226 introduced a part number change to the JTT Transmitter/Receiver (JTT-
T/R), new crypto loads using a Simple Key Loader (SKL), Programmable Cryptographic
Module Batteries (CR2477N x 4) and a newer version of the Tipoff Network Translator (TNT)
software to the laptop at Seat 18.
d. This re-issue covers the inclusion of a Removal and Replacement procedure for the 4
PCM batteries (CR2477N) added during SM226. This hardware and software upgrade
programme brought the JTT-T/R to Block 6 standard, enabling reception of IBS-Transitional
(IBS-T) and Common Integrated Broadcast (CIB) transmission. Additionally, the TNT
software in the laptop at Seat 18 is updated from Version 9d to Version 13.
e. General Warning. Refer to Hazard and Maintenance Information in AP 101B-5301-5A2.
f. Radio Frequency (RF) Radiation Precautions. When operating radio transmitters,
observe the RF radiation precautions that follow:
• Do not transmit when fuelling operations are being performed within 200ft, or in the
presence of any materials likely to spark ignition
• Avoid unnecessary test transmissions
• Use dummy loads and RF absorbing material whenever possible
• Make sure that personnel are a minimum of 10ft from the antenna before radiating
power
• Check that the system is powered off, and all applicable Circuit Breakers (CB), are
tagged before performing any maintenance activity.
WARNING
DO NOT DISCONNECT RF CABLES WITH POWER APPLIED, AS INJURY
FROM RF BURNS MAY RESULT.
CAUTION
Do not disconnect RF cables with power applied, as damage to
equipment may result.
g. Electronic System Precautions. Whenever maintenance on the system is required,
observe the precautions that follow:
• Observe all high-voltage warnings
• Turn off power to systems by opening CB listed for the system. Tag CB while
working on the system if CB are not under continuous observation.
