Sydenham to Sefton track maintenance

From Thursday 20 April to Monday 24 April 2023


What we’re doing
Sydney Trains will complete maintenance works between Sydenham and Sefton via Bankstown from Thursday 20 April to
Monday 24 April.
Between Sydenham and Bankstown, Sydney Metro is undertaking upgrades to the concourse precincts, installing new lift
structures and staircases, installing platform furniture, rebuilding platforms, building new trackside cabling and equipment and
substation and power upgrade work.
At Sydenham, Sydney Metro is installing overhead wiring cantilevers, switching materials, cabling and rail connections and
undertaking testing and commissioning activities at Sydenham Station.
Sydney Trains construction and maintenance works include:
• Drainage works between Bankstown and Sefton
• Power supply upgrade works at various locations
• Routine civil, signal, and electrical maintenance
• Station maintenance works, to improve safety on stations
• Track defect removal to improve network reliability
• Track inspection and preventative maintenance
• Track resurfacing, tamping and grinding activities
• Vegetation maintenance, litter and graffiti removal

How this affects you


Noise
• These works may create additional noise during the day and at night.
• Work will take place around the clock from 2am Thursday 20 April until 2am Monday 24 April.
• Equipment may be delivered to the worksite outside the above times. Some deliveries may occur at night due to day
time travel restrictions on large vehicles.
• Diesel work trains may have their engines running on site for an extended period.
• Final (finishing) works including the removal of equipment may take place beyond the dates stated above.

Traffic and Parking


• Heavy vehicles will be using local streets to access the rail corridor.
• We will park our vehicles inside the rail corridor where possible, please be aware that on-street parking may be limited
near worksite.
• Traffic controllers will be on duty throughout the works to assist motorists and pedestrians.
• Rail replacement buses will be in operation during this time. Parking changes will be in place around train stations for
temporary bus stops and bus zones.
• Customers travelling by public transport during this time should allow extra travel time, try to travel outside the peaks
