7 Johnny travelled from Town A to Town B at an average speed of 80 km/h.


a Express the speed in m/s.
b The distance between Town A and Town B is 1 200 km. What time will Johnny
arrive at Town B, given that he started his journey at 7 p.m.?

8 A truck travels from City P to City R. The truck left City P at 8 p.m. and travelled at an
average speed of 56 km/h. At 8.30 p.m., a car left City P and travelled towards City R at
an average speed of 70 km/h.
a Find the time the car overtook the truck.
b When overtaking the truck, the car was 30 km from City R. Find the distance
between the truck and City R when the car arrived at City R.

9 There are enough bottles of water to last 86 soldiers for 10 days. If 26 soldiers are
absent, how much longer will the water last?

10 10 men are needed to build a road. The road is 100 m long and the job is estimated to
take 10 days. After working for 5 days at this rate, the men were told that the road was to
be extended to 120 m. How many more men are needed to complete the job within the
initial timeframe?

11 Chef A bakes 50 pies in 24 minutes and Chef B bakes 42 pies in 1.2 hours. Express
Chef A’s rate of baking pies to that of Chef B’s in the simplest form.

12 Lucy can sew a dress alone in 10 hours. Julie can sew a dress alone in 16 hours. Julie
was sewing a dress alone for 4 hours before Lucy joined her. Both women worked
together until the dress was completed. How much time was taken to sew the dress in
total?
