1. Excuse me, Let me introduce My Ship and My experience during one year on board. I was
appointed to be on board at Indonesian’s Company PT. TANTO INTIM LINES with an
Container Carrier Vessel named Mv. Tanto Bersinar. It is a Container Carrier with 2 ship’s
crane, made by Iwagi Zosen Co. Ltd, Japan originally for Container cargo with maximum
1005 Teus. Its keel laid in 1998 and 1999 finished. The Length over all of this vessel is
161.85 Mtrs / 531.00 Ft and The breadth is 25.60 Mtrs / 83.99 Ft. My ship consists of 22
crew members including Captain. There are 9 officers consisting of 4 deck officers and 4
officers for the engine and 1 electriciant officer. While as many as 5 people rating decks
and 3 engine rating people, the remaining 2 are 1 mess boy and 1 Chief cook, for last 3
cadets consisting of 2 cadet decks and 1 cadet engine.

2. CHIEF COOK

The post of Chief Cook is in charge of the Catering Department ship, Chairman Cook also
makes a report for the Master, and decides / Leads 2nd Cook and Utilities / helpers in
aspects including discipline and cleanliness. Make Menus and make sure about fulfilling
menus for ship crews The Head of Cook arranges the budget and arranges food within the
limits set by the Master, arranges a varied menu, and is responsible for increasing the
nutritional and cooking values for the Officer.

For emergency situation on board a chief cook serves as a helper in all situations both
fire, drowning, Man over Board etc. He must also ensure that the needs of the staple food
supply during an emergency means that He must have a spare stock that is used
temporarily if the ship is in an emergency.

Working closely with the mess boy must ensure that the kitchen and dining room are
clean and hygienic. The chief cook can order his mess boy subordinates to help cook in
the kitchen and prepare cutlery. He usually has more experience on board because he
must have gone through many cruise trips. He is also a senior member of the crew
because most of it has moved for 40 years.

The chief cook also determines the conditions of the ship on the boat. Within the food he
made he must be able to create different foods every day suppose that crew does not get
bored and feels at home on the ship because the menu is delicious and not monotonous.
