Education Is Not A Right But A Privilege

Education is also hierarchically structured and rewards those who have the privilege
to access it with better socio-economic opportunities, a higher standard of living, and more
fulfilling careers. This structure is perpetuated by the private and public policies that favor
those who have access to education and disadvantage those who do not. Without the
privilege that education offers, one stands a high chance of remaining oppressed,
underdeveloped, and relegated to the margins of society (in a marginalized sector of the
society). Another reason why education is considered a privilege rather than a right is the
lack of access to quality education in many parts of the country. Rural and remote areas
often have inadequate facilities and a shortage of trained teachers, making it difficult for
children to receive a decent education. This is compounded by the deep-seated inequalities
in the education system, where access to quality education is only available to those who can
afford it.
Therefore, education remains a privilege, and not everyone has the opportunity to
access it. However, the creation of a more equitable and just society demands that we also
recognize education as a right. It is crucial that education is not only accessible but exclusive.
Only then can education truly be seen as a right rather than a privilege. As a future educator
let’s change these views of individual that education is a privilege. Together lets make a place
where negativity could not grow and foster and may the individual see the education as a
rights, not a privilege.
