    Part 1:

    A: Hi Susanna. I'm just going to the (1)…… for the school concert. Are you
    coming to play your violin in the school orchestra
    B: I'm afraid not, Karl. I'm not at all keen on playing in concerts.
    A: You're not (2)…… about performing in front of an audience, are you?
    B: It's not bad. Lots of other things I'd rather be doing.
    A: But I thought you liked music. You have (3)…… lessons, don't you?
    B: Yes, I do. But I don't enjoy them. The worst part is having to practice for (4)
    …… every day. I never get any better…but it just seems a waste of time.
    A: oh I enjoy practicing because then I feel that I'm making (5)……. In fact,
    playing the piano is a way of escaping from the stress of my schoolwork.
    B: I'd be happy if I could stop my violin lessons…but my parents won't let me.
    They say I'll regret it later…but I don't agree. It's not as if I'm going to make
    music my (6)…… like you are.
    A: I'm not good enough to be a professional musician, I'm afraid…and it's much
    too uncertain. I'm hoping to be a (7)……, like my father. That offers much more
    security.
    B: I want a good career, too. But I don't want to be a (8)…… like my parents.
    Perhaps when I've been to university, I'll have more idea of what I want to do.
    I'll probably get a job abroad because I'd really love to travel and see the world.

    Part 2:
    I've just come back from a short music course called “Singing from (1)……”. It
    was a Brownstone college which is just to the north of London. A woman called
    Lena Fibs runs the three-day courses for people with no previous experience of
    singing. Lena used to be an opera (2)……. But no longer appears on the stage.
    Nowadays, she occasionally sings in jazz clubs but spends most of her time
    teaching. She was (3)……! There were only 9 of us on the course I attended:
    five men and four women and Lena never takes more than (4)…… students on
    a course. This means that everyone has lots of attention and plenty of
    opportunity to sing. We were all very (5)…… at the beginning but every class
    begins with some exercises to help students relax. These are followed by
    warmup exercises to (6)…… the quality of the voice. During these three days,
    students learn around 20 songs in a variety of different styles depending on the
    interests of the class members. There are classical and modern songs including
    pop songs. By the last day, everyone was (7)…… enough to perform their
    favorite song on their own. I wouldn't really recommend this course.
    Brownstone college is an old building surrounded by a beautiful (8)…….
    Accommodation is very comfortable. The single and twin rooms are clean and
    warm; and three meals a day are included in the cost: a cooked breakfast, lunch
    and an evening meal. The lunch is very good and the salads can be
    recommended. Courses begin on the last (9)…… of the month. So, the next one
    begins on the 24th of September and continues until Thursday the 26th of
    September. I would advise you to (10)…… a place early because it's certain to
    be very popular.
