MY REFLECTION

Based on the report of Ma'am Almonicar and Ma'am Rosell. Guidance and counseling holds a
strong foothold in our day to day life. It provides assistance to an individual in developing an
insight, rcognizing his/her strengths and weaknesses and finding out his interest. It makes
individual capable of taking his/her own decisions keeping in mind his moral, family and society.

When we say guidance it entails directing or assisting someone who requires assistance. So, it
means of helping individuals to understand and use wisely the educational, vocational and
personal opportunities they have or can develop and as a form of systematic assistance
whereby students are aided in achieving satisfactory adjustment to school and in life. For
example, a teacher gives homework for his/her students but after passing the homework. A
teacher complains because he/she got a kids hand in homework that their parents handwriting.
So the solution for that, as a parent you need to guide your child in doing homeworks so that
your child will understand what he/she doing. Doing assignment for your child won't help
him/her understand and use information. And it won't help him/her become confident in
his/her own abilities. I have a niece a grade two pupil. She has a hard time in solving math
problems and she ask me about the problem given by her teacher and I immediately help her
how to get the solution for that problem so that she will understand and become confident in
answering/solving math problems on her own.

When we say counseling it is a procedure that assist an individual in finding a solution to a

problem while also assisting their overall growth. For example is the adolescent who prefers to
spend with friends rather than attend class. The transition from childhood to adulthood is a
difficult one, even for the most balanced child. Apart from the influence of the family, the other
major influence on the young person's life is the school and the school environment. The most
that other influences can attempt to do is to help each young person to cope with the changes,
to develop a sense of responsibility, to make definite and considerable personal decisions. In
short, families and schools have duty to assist young people in their self-growth toward
becoming a self-fulfilled and well-adjusted adult. So guidance and counseling can provide a
good basis for a broader education for life.
