IMPORTANCE OF SPORTS

The importance of sports is one of those topics that cannot be stressed enough and with
good reason. First of all, Sport refers to an activity involving physical activities and skill.
Here, two or more parties compete against each other. Sports are an integral part of human
life and there is great importance of sports in all spheres of life. The main benefits of sport
are to improve physical health as well as mental health, teaching various important life skills
and to increase confidence and self esteem of an individual.
Playing sports reduces several health risks. As sport serve as an excellent form of exercise,
it would not come as a surprise that they offer health benefits such as lowering blood
pressure, maintaining blood sugar, maintaining cholesterol levels and many other health
risks. Thus, It keeps your body in shape and saves you from problems such as obesity, high
blood pressure, heart diseases and weak bones. Furthermore, women should specially take
active part in sports as it keeps their monthly cycles regulated and prevents them from all the
gynaecological problems. A research reveals that 60% of the women who play sports are
prevented from breast cancer. On the other hand, kids in a growing age will get used to torn
knees and other minor injuries from playing sports and thus do not become susceptible to it.
This will help them to develop strong muscles and good physique.
The physical benefits of sports is well known but you might not be aware of how it impacts
your mental health. Participating in physical activities has an incredibly beneficial effect on
your happiness. Recent research on mental illness shows the importance of sports for the
treatment of general depression, anxiety, and addiction-related disorders. This is because of
the hormone endorphin that helps the body restore its serotonin and dopamine production
through the inhibition of cortisol. To explain more, the body reacts to exercise similarly to
how it reacts to antidepressants or opioids, therefore it is helpful for stimulating certain areas
of the brain. Exercise is not only good as a type of prevention for sickness but it can also be
used as medicine. In addition, treatment of general depression, anxiety, and addiction-
related disorders This too has been shown to improve mood and lower the symptoms of
depression. Taking vitamin D tablets can be used as a treatment for depression but getting it
directly from the sun is a more natural and effective method.
Next, a lot of important life skills can be learned from participating in team sports. Playing
team sports could help in improving problem solving skills as that is essentially what a sport
game is. For example, while playing team sports such as football, basketball and hockey,
players must decide whether to shoot or pass, whether to play an offside trap or defend the
goal line, or whether to play it safe or take a risk. The more they play, the more they will
have learned from their mistakes to be better problem solvers. This skill are especially
beneficial to children as it can then be taken into algebra, chemistry, and literature classes.
Other than that, team sports could teach you on how to be good leader. It teaches you that a
leader is not a boss but a considerate person who takes each person’s opinion into account.
They also teach you to accept failures and victories in the same spirit. The knowledge that
you gain from playing sports, the values that you learn from your mistakes make you a better
citizen and a humble individual.
Last but not least, playing sports helps in developing self confidence and self esteem. Sports
helps us to maintain a good body image. This could not just help us to stay fit but it could
also boost our confidence. Watching your hard work pay off and achieving your dreams
brings about tons of self confidence. If you can achive something in a sport or in a fitness
goal, then you will know that you can achive any other goals that you have set in your life.
Next, many people’s self-esteem improves through sport as they discover things that they
are good at. Participating in any competitive sport also improves our ability to handle
pressure and still perform well, as well as teaching us how to win and lose graciously.
As a conclusion, the fact that playing sport is good for us is completely undeniable because
it helps us to improve our life in every possible way. Thus, this ultimately means that sports
will lead us to live a long and happy life.
