ITAS Arab Youth Competition 2023

The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) is hosting the
ITAS Arab Youth Competition 2023 in conjunction with the ITAS Conference 2023 at its State of
Art campus in Doha, Qatar between March 1-3, 2023. Link: https://conference.udst.edu.qa/

UDST is a national university with a vision to promote excellence in applied education and
research contributing to innovation and sustainable development in Qatar and to the global
community.

This competition aims to develop Sustainable and Practical Solutions for Arab Countries,
keeping in view the United Nations 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs). The SDGs are the
blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global
challenges the word face, including poverty, inequality, education, climate change, water
availability, innovation and infrastructure, sustainable cities, energy efficiency, food security,
environmental degradation, collaboration and partnerships, life underwater, peace, and justice.

The competition will expose the student teams from the Arab countries to think about the SDGs
from the lenses of practicality, sustainability, and societal impact to design real-world applied
solutions to the existing problems faced by the world depicted in the 17 SDGs, and contribute
toward achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda of United Nations and creating a
better and more sustainable future for all.
Competition Timeline

Launch of the ITAS Arab Youth Competition 2023 : October 5, 2022


Deadline for Submission : December 5, 2022
Announcing Shortlisted Results : January 5, 2023
Showcasing Shortlisted Projects : March 1, 2023
ITAS Arab Innovation Award Ceremony : March 2, 2023

Scope of the Competition

ITAS Arab Youth Competition 2023 will create awareness about global challenges in youth to
think critically and come up with innovative ideas – a call to action to achieve the SDGs through
technology. Participants are encouraged to identify and solve a real problem and find
sustainable solutions using technology.

The scope of the Competition is to explore future challenges and opportunities in terms of
achieving sustainable development in various sectors i.e., food security, environment, water
management, justice, renewable energy, poverty, inequality, education, climate change, water
availability, innovation and infrastructure, sustainable cities, energy efficiency and application of
computer science and information technology for sustainable development.

Participation Guidelines

The ITAS Arab Youth Competition 2023 is open to all students (citizens and residents) from
academic institutions (both universities and colleges) in Arab Countries.

Note:
➢ The competition will be having two categories: Undergraduate and Postgraduate.
➢ Participants must have research supervisor for projects to ensure quality submissions.
➢ The online application must focus on one or more UN SDGs using technology.
➢ Proof of concepts or Prototypes are encouraged.

Judging Criteria

Judging of the projects will be based on three criteria.

Competition Phases

Phase-I: Judging Process and Shortlisting of Projects


➢ A panel of judges representing academia, industry, and research organization will be
invited to evaluate the submitted application for this ITAS Arab Youth Competition 2023.
The application will be evaluated on a well-established and quantifiable criteria and
requirements.
➢ The panel of judges will shortlist the Top 10 Projects for the next phase of the ITAS Arab
Youth Competition 2023.
➢ The results of the application (shortlisted or unsuccessful) will be communicated with all
the team by January 5th 2023.
Phase-II - Showcasing Shortlisted Projects
➢ The Phase-II of the ITAS Arab Youth Competition 2023 will take place in Doha, Qatar.
➢ The shortlisted teams from Phase-I will be invited to the University of Doha for Science
and Technology to showcase their projects at the ITAS Conference 2023 to the
international community, students, Government, policymakers, scientists, researchers,
and organizers.
➢ Further details about posters and presetation specifications will be sent to the shortlisted
applicants.
Phase-III – Selection of Winners
➢ The jury will evaluate the final projects during a poster and presentation session at the
ITAS conference between 1-3 March 2023.
➢ The jury will select the Top 3 Projects to be the Winners of ITAS Arab Youth Competition
2023.

➢ ITAS Arab Youth Competition 2023 will create an awareness about the sustainable
development goals in a wider and diverse community of youth in the Arab region.
➢ To be the winners of the ITAS Arab Innovation Award.
➢ Promote your university as a leading research and innovation institute within the Arab
Countries.
➢ Benchmark your Sustainable Project on a national and international level.
➢ Opportunity to participate in the ITAS Conference 2023 and meet international leaders in
sustainability to exchange innovative, practical, and sustainable ideas with the global
researchers/mentors/policymakers and discuss ideas about advancing sustainable
development goals and their implementation.
➢ Free registration, accommodation, local transport in Qatar, conference fees, meals, and
social events at the ITAS Conference 2023 in Doha, Qatar.
