• Greetings

Good morning class! Good morning, Sir!

• Checking of attendance
Is there any absent in your class today?
None, Sir!
• Checking of assignment
Did I give you an assignment class? Yes, Sir!
Okay, let us check your assignment. (Student checking their assignment)
So, what have we discussed yesterday? Sir, yesterday we have discussed about
the undefined terms in Geometry.
Okay. So, what are those undefined terms in
Geometry? Sir, the undefined terms in geometry are
point, line and plane.
Okay. Very good. It feels great that you still
remember our discussion yesterday.

B. Establishing a purpose for So, this morning we will have a new topic to discuss
the lesson which is Illustrating subsets of a line.

In this topic, you shall be able to:

First, Illustrate the subsets of a line. Second define,
identify and name the subsets of a line.

But before we proceed to our topic, let us first have a

short activity. I know you are familiar with the game
called 4 pics 1 word. Every 4 pictures are linked to
one word which you need to figure out. So, are you
ready?
Yes, Sir!
Okay. Let us start!

The first picture is:

Answer: RAY

YRA
Very good. Okay.
The second picture is:

Answer: SEGMENT

TEGSNME
Correct!
The third picture is:

Answer: OPPOSITE

EIOPTSPO

Correct again. You all did great. Let’s give

everybody 5 claps for that.
C. Presenting I have here question to ponder.
examples/instances of the new
lesson Everyone read number:

1. Consider the bright sunlight in the sky. Does

it represent a ray?
2. Consider the cord of your charger phone.
Would you consider a cord as representation
of a line segment?

3. A sharp spear is an object represents a ray.

Do spears extend infinitely in one direction?
Is a spear a ray?
D. Discussing new concepts Your answer in 4 pic in 1 word such as RAY,
and practicing new skills #1 SEGMENT and OPPOSITE will now led us to our
new topic for today. The Illustrating subset of a line.

First let us identify what they are.

Who knows among you the subsets of line?
(One of the students raise his hand) Sir?

Yes, Dave? The line segment and the ray are

some of the subsets of a line.

Very good, Dave.

Now, who can give me the definition of the line

segment?

Yes, freezy? Line Segment-is a part of a line that

has two points endpoints. Segment
are congruent if they have the same
length.
It is usually named by its two
endpoints with a bar above
them.
Thank you Fresszy!

Now let’s have an example of line segment.

A B

“The line segment may be called AB or BA or line

segment AB or BA.”

“Class base on that figure, what do you think is the

two endpoints of a line?”

“Yes, Lance?”
Its endpoint are A and B.
“Very good, Lance.”
Figure 2.

A B C

In this figure, what do you think is the line segment?

Yes, Sabrina?
The line segment are AB, BC and
AC or in symbols, AB, BC, and AC

Correct! Thank you, Sabrina.

Figure 3.

A B C D A
E
-6 -5 -4 -3 -2 -1 0 1 2 3 4

How can you solve the length of the line segment

class?
We can solve the length of the line
segment using absolute value.

So let us solve: 1. AB = |(−6) – (−3)| = 3 units

1. AB = 2. CD = | 0 – (3)| = 3 units
2. CD = 3. BD = | (−3) – (3)| = 6 units
3. BD = 4. BC = |(−3) – (0)| = 3 units
4. BC = 5. AC = |(−6) – (0)| = 6 units
5. AC =

Very good class.

Now, let’s procced to another subset of a line which

is a Ray.

What is a Ray?

Yes, Laurence?
Ray is also a part of a line but has
only one endpoint, and extend
endlessly in one direction. We name
a ray by its endpoint and one of its
points.
Thank you, Laurence!
Example:

A B

The ray can be name AB read as “ray AB

Figure 2.

A B C

From that figure, what do you think the point of the

ray?

Yes, Lloyd?
Ray AB or AC or in symbols, “AB or
AC”

Very good, Lloyd!

Another subset of line is OPPOSITE RAY

What is opposite ray?

Yes, Divine?

Are rays with a common

endpoint but extending in opposite
directions
Thank you, Divine!

Example:
A B C

In this figure, what did you notice?

Yes, John?
Sir the given figure is a example of a
line
Correct!

This figure called opposite ray BA and BC. Their

common endpoint is in B.

Is that clear class?

Yes, sir!
D. Discussing new concepts LET’S TRY!
and practicing new skills #1 Name all the line segments, rays and opposite rays.
Expected answer:

Line segment= CB, BA, CA

D Rays= BA, BD, BC, CB, AB,

Opposite rays= BC and BA

C B A

to formative assessment) Let us have an activity, I will group you into three, so
count off from 1 to 3.

Group 1, name all the line segment.

Group 2, name all the ray. Expected answer:
Group 3, name all the opposite ray.
Line segment= DE, EA, DA

Rays= EA, EB, EC, ED, DE, AE,

C B Opposite rays= ED and EA

D E A

G. Finding practical Real-world examples of line segments are a pencil, a

application of concepts and baseball bat, the cord to your cell phone charger, the
skills in daily living edge of a table, etc.
The sun rays are an example of a ray. The sun is the
starting point or the point of origin, and its rays of

light extend indefinitely in our solar system.

H. Making generalizations Again, what are the subset of a line?
and abstractions about the
lesson. What is line segment?
Line segment and Rays
What is a ray?

Line Segment-is a part of a line that

has two points endpoints.
When can say the line segment is congruent?
Ray- is a part of a line but has only
one endpoint.
When can say, it is a opposite rays?
When they have the same length.
When they have common endpoint.
I. Evaluating Learning TRUE OR FALSE Answer:
1. The endpoint of ED is E. 1. TRUE
2. A ray has a definite length. 2. FALSE
3. A line segment has a definite length. 3. TRUE
4. AB is the same as BA. 4. FALSE
5. HA is the same as AH. 5. TRUE
6. A line segment has to endpoints. 6. TRUE
7. A ray has consisted of one point. 7. FALSE
8. If XY and YZ have a common endpoint, then 8. TRUE
they are opposite rays. 9. TRUE
9. If OP and OS are opposite rays, then O lies 10. FALSE
between S and P.
10. The measure between two points A and B
with coordinate -2 and -6 respectively can be
negative.
