Chapter 1. General outline

1-1. Purpose & specifications


1) Purpose
This machine is designed to cut automatically steel materials.
For more efficient operation, this instruction manual enables you to understand regarding
band sawing machine. It includes how to run effectively with safety during operation and
will give you help for the following point :
- Prevention of dangerous situation during operation.
- Minimum maintenance costs.
- Optimum operation.
- Reliability and life span enhancement.

2) Specifications

- Electric condition : 3Phase / 220V 50/60Hz / 17.54kw
- Rated circuit breaker : 100A
- Blade (mm) : 54w * 1.6 t * 8800 l
- Ambient temperature : -10 ~ 40℃ .(Under the condition without ice or frost)
- Ambient humid : Less than 90% RH . (Under the condition without dewfall)
- Storage temperature : -20 ~ 65℃.
- Ambient condition : Corrosive gas or flammable gas must be blockaded.
- Altitude vibration : Less than 1000m above the sea level, less than 5.9m/sec (=0.6g) .
- Material : Round bar, rectangular lumber, channel, H-beam and etc.
- Capacity : 1,000mm * 1,000mm

1-3. General instructions

1) Shuttle (Rear) vise


When cutting material, this unit unclamps with main vice and is used to feed material
with the feeding part, clamping and unclamping in feeding material.

2) Main (Front) vise


This unit unclamps with shuttle vise in cutting or feeding material.
- To infeed material, shuttle vise is clamped and main vise is unclamped.
- To outfeed material, shuttle vise is unclamped and main vise is clamped.

3) Feeding unit
This unit is used to feed material with clamping and unclamping when feeding material
and the movement length of material can be found out through encoder.
(Manual mode : High and low speed operation is possible using the touch screen panel.)

4) Ascending / descending unit


This unit is designed to ascend and descend saw blade.

5) Wheel drive
This unit is designed to rotate saw blade and works with inverter motor while saw
blade engages with two wheels. Touch monitor enables speed to be controlled.
(If wheel sensor detects saw blade damage, it stops automatically.)

6) ARM insert
This unit fixes and holds manually saw blade that rotates in the driving part.

7) Miter cutting
Auto miter cutting is available up to 45 degrees with digital display.

Chapter 2. Safety

2-1. Basic function & instruction


1) This machine is designed and manufactured by the advanced technology in conformity
with the safety regulation. Operator, however, must be always careful because any severe
injury or casualty can be caused by this machine and other systems.
2) This machine must be handled by certified engineer who is familiar with danger and safety
concerning the machine functioning and operated under normal condition in accordance
with the operation & maintenance instructions. Therefore, any functional faults have to be
directly troubleshooted.

2-2. Machine maintenance


1) Keep this manual nearby operation panel and refer to it for operation.

2) If there is any modification regarding safety during operation, stop the machine and inform
a person in charge of whether the machine is OK or not.

2-3. Safety guide for operator


1) Operator must be qualified to handle the machine.
2) Operator must follow the safety regulations on this manual before starting the machine.
3) If any modification or something wrong occur during operation, let a responsible person
know immediately it. Stop the machine if necessary.
4) The machine must be in operation under wheel cover is closed.
5) Operation mode that can have influence on safety must be refrained.
6) In case of breakdown, stop the machine and take prompt action to be repaired.
7) For safe and efficient operation, it is strongly required to execute daily checkup whether
each driving part and motor well works without oil leakage. If something wrong takes place
on the machine, stop the machine and inform a person in charge of it.

2-4. Injury prevention


1) Don’t open head cover during the power-on or operation. Injury can be caused because of
saw blade rotation during operation.

2-5. Electric shock prevention


1) Don’t open covers of motor, inverter and electrical parts on the condition of the power-
supply because it causes electric shock.
2) Don’t open cover except for cable work or regular inspection although the power-supply
is off. In case that inverter voltage is cut, it causes also electric shock because voltage is
charged for a long time.
3) Before carrying out cable work or regular inspection, cut the power-supply for more 10
minutes and check whether charging current of inverter discharges by means of a tester.
4) Don’t control switches with wet hands because it causes electric shock.
5) Don’t make cable damaged and put heavy stuff that causes excessive stress because it
brings about electric shock.

2-6. Fire prevention


1) Don’t place any flammable materials near the electrical parts.
2) Cut the power-supply in case of breakdown. If not, fire is subject to happen by subsequent
accident.

2-7. Damage prevention


1) Don’t allow the voltage exceeding the range indicated on each input port because it causes
machine damage.

2-9. Handling & installation

1) Handle the machine by forklift or crane. There are 4 slots to be easily handled.

2) Install the machine according to the regulations described on this manual.

3) Don’t input the power-supply under damaged condition of the mechanical or electrical parts
even though installation is completed.

4) Don’t open main cover during carriage of the machine.

5) Install the machine a little lower to the direction that material is outfed after cutting
as worker position.

6) If the machine is set up, connect electric cable in compliance with the rated circuit breaker
capacity and cable thickness.
(Breaker: 3phase / 100A, cable thickness : 16SQ )

Running status of the machine can be checked through this screen and its configurations
are as follows.
1) Target angle : If F3 button is pushed, it moves to the already setup angle.
2) Angle return : If F4 button is pushed, it returns 0°.
3) Angle reset : It is used in the event that encoder to fix angle value is manually reset.
4) Alarm details : All alarm details can be checked and deleted.
5) Blade speed: Blade speed can be controlled by button.
6) Screen scroll : It is used to scroll screens.
(For any value input, it can be scrolled to left and right )
7)Status
-SPEED : Running the wheel driving part, the rotating speed of blade is indicated.
-LOAD : For operator’s reference when blade goes down to cut, it indicates the load ratio
of motor in the wheel driving part. The optimum ratio is less than 75%.
-ANGLE : It indicates the mechanical part’s numerical angle.
- : It indicates blade rotates while turning.

- : It indicates the mechanical part’s moving angle.

The configurations of this setup screen are as follows.


1)Default : If F4 button is pushed for 3 seconds, the load value of blade returns to the default.
2)Entry value cursor : It is used to enter the target angle.
3) Screen scroll : It is used to scroll screens.
(For any value input, it can be scrolled to left and right )
4)SET button : Push SET button to enter low speed area of angle, angle offset and blade
load. (Default - low speed area of angle : 2°, angle offset : 0°, blade load : 200%)
5)ENT button : If ENT button is pushed, the entry is completed and it moves to next entry.
6)Status
-LOW-SPD SET : For angle switchover, the regular area is setup to switch slowly.
-ANG OFF-SET : It can be corrected comparing actually switched angle and indicated
angle.
-REF LOAD : It indicates the load ratio when cutting.

1)Default: If F2 button is pushed for 1 second, the corrected angle data returns to the default.
2)Entry value cursor: It is used to enter the target angle.
3)Screen scroll: It is used to scroll screens.
(For any value input, it can be scrolled to left and right.)
4)SET button: Push SET button, select and enter corrected angle data.
5)ENT button: If ENT button is pushed, the entry is completed and it moves to next entry.
6)Status
- 00-05˚ : This is to correct the range - 0˚ ~ 5˚.
- 05-10˚ : This is to correct the range - 5˚ ~ 10˚.
- 10-15˚ : This is to correct the range - 10˚ ~ 15˚.
- 15-20˚ : This is to correct the range - 15˚ ~ 20˚.
- 20-25˚ : This is to correct the range - 20˚ ~ 25˚.
- 25-30˚ : This is to correct the range - 25˚ ~ 30˚.
- 30-35˚ : This is to correct the range - 30˚ ~ 35˚.
- 35-40˚ : This is to correct the range - 35˚ ~ 40˚.
- 40-45˚ : This is to correct the range - 40˚ ~ 45˚.
7)Default lamp : If F2 button is pushed for 1 second, the lamp turns on.

This screen indicates working time and cutting load scale and its configurations are as follows.
1)Working time reset : If F4 button is pushed for 3 seconds, the working time is reset.
2)Entry value cursor : It is used to enter the cutting load scale.
3)Screen scroll : It is used to scroll screens.
(For any value input, it can be scrolled to left and right )
4)SET button : Push SET button to enter the cutting load scale.
(Max. scale to enter is 200%)
5)ENT button : If ENT button is pushed, the entry is completed and the cutting load scale
is setup.
6)Status
-WORK TIME :It indicates the working time.
-LOAD SCALE : Down speed of saw blade changes corresponding to the current load
of saw blade and the cutting load scale when cutting. Thus, down speed can be high
high or low, adjusting this value.
(Default of the load scale is 100%)

Chapter 4. Operation
Operator must be well aware of this manual (especially safety) before running the machine and follow
the procedures for safety operation. Operation mode is divided into automatic and manual operation.
Details are as follows. (Refer to manual operation.)

Cancel emergency stop switch. If it is switched on, the power-supply is cut.

4-3. Warming-up
This is the preliminary function for automatic operation.

Select manual mode after stopping automatic operation.

2 Run hydraulic motor.

3 Put material on shuttle vise and main vise.

Shuttle vise : After checking and clamping material, move to the cutting position.
4 Target angle : Materials are transferred to the target angle.
Main vise : Clamp if the cutting position is fixed.

Shuttle vise and main vise must be clamped, so that automatic operation is available.

If each mechanical part gets ready to work, the machine is ready to run automatically.

6 Run the machine after checking the cutting angle of materials.

4-4. Manual mode


Manual mode is basically the same as manual running and runs the step function to the specific
position fixed from the inside of PLC. (See the explanation on the screen of touch screen panel.)

1) Manual running flow. (If main vise is just clamped, it is possible to cut automatically one time.)

Preparation for -The running is allowed only one time.

Starting (M150A) -Manual running is allowed only one time regardless of


schedule.

-In case of error, it stops going down and accordingly

-Take the expedient on the screen and restart.

4-5. Troubleshooting
During running the machine, any faults can be checked through the operation panel.

BLADE CHANGE It checks the time based on the initial driving of saw blade. If the setup time
M250 exceeds, this code is seen.
CHECK
- Reset the working time on Work Time screen.

Due to mechanical / electrical fault in hydraulic motor, it is overheated and


accordingly thermal relay tripped.
M251 HYD. O/L
- Check mechanical intervention and the setup value of thermal relay. After
checkup, press the switch of thermal relay to cancel and then it reverts.

Due to mechanical / electrical fault in hydraulic motor, it is overheated and


accordingly thermal relay tripped.
M252 COOLANT O/L
- Check mechanical intervention and the setup value of thermal relay. After
checkup, press the switch of thermal relay to cancel and then it reverts.

Due to mechanical / electrical fault in saw blade driving motor, inverter has
executed the self-diagnosis and the standard current has been checked.
M253 B-MOTOR O/L - Check mechanical intervention and the error code of inverter. After
checkup, press the stop (reset) button to cancel. In spite of the power-
supply cut off, it is reset until rechargeable lamp it turned off.

Due to mechanical / electrical fault in chip brush, it is overheated and


accordingly thermal relay has tripped.
M254 C-BRUSH O/L
- Check mechanical intervention and the setup value of thermal relay. After
checkup, press the switch of thermal relay to cancel and then it reverts.

It is caused if saw blade doesn’t work although the wheel driving part is
BLADE CHECK monitored by sensor after 3 seconds from starting.
M255
ERROR - Check electric motor, driving part, wheel driving part and sensor behind
wheel driving part.

ENCODER It is caused if the deviation of encoder value is indicated over reference value
M256 or the reset value is not 0 after the forward limit is ON.
0 CHECK
- Check mechanical gear and encoder.

It is caused if the encoder value exceeds reference value, encoder


ANG MOVE
M257 malfunctions or the turning angle value and encoder value differ.
ERROR
- Check mechanical gear and encoder.

As the interaction between PLC and inverter, it checks two-way


INV COMM. communication. If not, it would be faulty.
