A Surface preparation, moisture testing and environmental condition inspection

The coating shall be applied after the full curing time of concrete in SAES-H-003

accordance to SAES-Q-001. Sec. 8.1.3

New concrete must have a moisture content of 4% or less before the


coating applications commence.

Note: Test report SATR-H-1003 " Concrete Moisture Field Test Sec. 8.1.5
(For Coating Purposes)" shall be available for review/verification of
concrete moisture condition.

Surface temperature, humidity and dew point readings shall be recorded.


The work shall not proceed if the substrate temperature shall be less than SAES-H-003

3°C (5°F) above the dew point, or any ther deviations from the coating Sec. 9.3.1
manufacturers' data sheet.

Remove any protrusions and sharp edges with an abrasive carborundum SAES-H-003

brick, power grinding, or power brushing prior to coating concrete. Sec. 7.2.1.1

Surfaces shall be sound such that a metal object run over the concrete SAES-H-003

shall not loosen any particles. Sec. 7.2.1.1

Surface contaminants such as laitance and form oils must be


removed. Form oils, grease, etc. shall be removed by steam SAES-H-003

cleaning with a water emulsifying detergent added. Laitance Sec. 7.2.1.2
shall be removed by wire brushing.

Materials that cannot be removed by steam cleaning or abrasion can be


removed by Hydochloric acid etching; The adequacy of the water flushing SAES-H-003

shall be checked by placing litmus paper on the wet surface to ensure that Sec. 7.2.1.3
it is fully neutralized.

New concrete shall be roughened to the texture of medium grit sandpaper SAES-H-003

by grit blasting when it has a troweled or "formed" smooth surface. Sec. 7.2.1.4

The tensile strength of heavy duty surface concrete by ASTM D4541 shall

A9 meet or exceed 175psi for immersion service and 260 psi for industrial

floors.

Remove all loose concrete, surface contaminations, sealants, and old


coatings by abrasive blasting (or other mechanical means) and/or hot water SAES-H-003

Neutralize acidic surfaces with an alkaline cleaner such as soda ash SAES-H-003
