There are 40 ASAP species occurring in the Philippines (Critically Endangered land or
freshwater vertebrates) with a staggering 90% of them (36 species) being endemic to the
country. This high level of endemism makes the archipelago a high-priority region for
averting extinctions of ASAP species.
” Extinction is forever, endangered means we still have time.”

” Don't let species go extinct, in this world we are all linked”

ANIMAL EXTINCTION AWARENESS

Extinction is the irreversible loss or extermination of animal species. It happens when the last
members of a species die because they cannot acquire the food, water, shelter, and/or space
necessary to survive.

Animal species serve as the foundation of healthy ecosystems. When a species becomes
endangered, it indicates that the ecosystem is deteriorating. If there is too much imbalance, the
entire ecosystem collapses. Each species that goes extinct triggers the loss of other species in its
ecosystem as all living things are interconnected in a web life. Hence, saving one species entails
saving its habitat as well as the other species that live there.
