COVID Pandemic

Research Title: Psychological impact of COVID-19 pandemic to

students in the Philippines

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic poses a threat to societies' mental
health. This study examined the prevalence of psychiatric symptoms and identified the factors
contributing to psychological impact in the Philippines.

An outbreak of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection is spreading intentionally. On

January 30, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the global COVID-19
outbreak a public health emergency of international concern. According to the statistics released
by WHO, there has been over 109,000,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection worldwide,
with at least 2,400,000 deaths as of February 17, 2021. For instance, schools and other public
places were closed, and students were encouraged to stay at home.

The COVID-19 pandemic has a negative impact not only on physical health lasts longer h
but also on psychological well-being, particularly when the outbreak lasts longer and is still
developing. The COVID-19 pandemic, with its rapid spreading and highly mortality, constitutes
a unique case of an acute, large scale, and uncontrollable stressor. It is well-established that stress
can have a significant effect on individual psychological well-being, particularly when the
individual cannot cope with the stress. Enough knowledge and concrete information about
COVID-19 would help to better cope with it. A wide range of medical knowledge was involved
in this newly emerging disease, such as the clinical presentations of coronavirus pneumonia its
pathogenesis, current transmission status, and prevention and control methods. We expected that
students with more knowledge on COVID-19 would be able to cope with it.

no prohibition as to how many times the account shall be updated or what topic shall be
discussed. To some students, they use this site to exchange academic information and flag their
school achievements. There are also teachers or faculty members who utilize e-mail to submit
requirements of students aside from hard copy. There are some colleges or institutions that use
SNS as effective means to disseminate information to their students, alumni and prospective
schools. The communication landscape is considerably changing. With the advent of computing
technology, space is virtually cut but amazingly kept close due to social networking. Interesting
