BED SHAMPOO
1. First of all, before assessing the client into a bed
shampoo, I will first VERIFY THE AGENCY POLICY AND THE PHYSICIANS ORDER - I already verify the Doctor’s order
2. I will discuss and DETERMINE THE BEST TIME
FOR PROCEDURE to my patient. Jhaz: Sir what time do you prefer to have a bed shampoo? Patient: Anytime of the day
3. I have ASSESSMBLE THE EQUIPMENT and
arranges them conveniently beside the patient. 2 basins: 1 for lukewarm and for cool water, rubber sheet or an under pad, gloves, bed blanket, face towel, cotton balls, comb to untangle the hair, shampoo, Kelly pad, pail , and newspaper. Before entering the clients room---- I already WASH MY HANDS 4. I will now INTRODUCE SELF and EXPLAIN PROCEDURE to my patient Jhaz: Hello sir, Good afternoon! I am Jhaztene… May I know your name? How would you like me to call you? —— Today, I’ll be assessing your bed shampoo
5. Observe other appropriate INFECTION
CONTROL PROCEDURE such as WEARING GLOVES
6. PROVIDE PRIVACY - to make the patient comfortable
7. LOOSEN THE GOWN of the client.
8. FOLD THE TOP SHEET up to the middle part and
replace it with a bath blanket.
9. COVER THE CHEST of the patient with bath
blanket cross wise. 10. I will now REMOVE THE PILLOW. Then place the patient's head diagonally across the bed. - So that I can reach the patient and to avoid making the bed wet
11. With the pillow that I have removed, I’m going to
PUT RUBBER SHEET OR UNDER PAD to protect the pillow and cover it with a bath towel at the top.
12. I will PLACE PILLOW UNDER PATIEN’S
SHOULDER. -- so that I can properly assess the patient for bed shampoo
— since the patient’s head is elevated, I’m going
to… 13. PLACE THE KELLY PAD under the patient's head — to catch the water that will be spilled out from the patient’s head when we wash our patient - and places the pail on the floor supported by newspapers. 14. COMB THE HAIR carefully. -to untangle the hair
(RINSE THE TOWEL)
I’m going to moisten the towel with LUKEWARM water 15. PLACE THE DAMP FACE TOWEL or wash cloth over the face to cover the eyes, ——— to protect the eyes in while shampooing the patient
16. Places the COTTON BALLS IN THE EAR canal.
—— to avoid fluid from going inside the ears
WE ARE NOW READY TO ASSESS IN
SHAMPOOING OUR PATIENT Before that: we need first to assess the head of the patient…
WE WILL SEE THE SCALP FROM FRONTAL,
TEMPORAL, TO THE OCCIPITAL AREA —— we will look if there are abnormalities FINDINGS: As I can observe there are no abnormalities present in my patient’s scalp so I can now start
•COMB THE HAIR to untangle it
•remove any clips or jewelries
17. MOISTEN THE HAIR thoroughly.
-moisten the hair thoroughly using the lukewarm water
18. APPLY SOAP OR RIGHT AMOUNT OF
SHAMPOO on the hair and scalp of the patient —— start from the forehead and distribute it and massage the scalp using the nail pads to promote circulation within the scalp
19. RINSE PROPERLY WITH WARM WATER and
repeat the procedure until hair is rinsed thoroughly —— PUT SOME CONDITIONER TO SOFTEN THE HAIR and avoid hair tangles - put it only within the hair of the patient
After a few minutes we can now rinse it
20. RINSE THOROUGHLY WITH COOL WATER —— now were done: squeeze the hair to remove excess water
21. REMOVE KELLY PAD
—— Pull the pillow because the towel is here. Then USE THE TOWEL within the pillow to DRY THE HAIR
23. DRY THE HAIR IN A TURBAN MANNER
— so that the towel can absorb the water from the wet hair
LET IT DRYYYYY……. * Remove the face towel, cotton balls, and rubber sheet
24. POSITION THE PATIENT IN A
COMFORTABLE POSITION. —— REMOVE THE BATH BLANKET —— UNFOLD THE TOP SHEET for the patient’s comfort
* When the hair is dry—— we can now REMOVE
THE TOWEL * Then COMB THE HAIR of the patient —— to be in a presentable manner
25. Ask the patient how he felt after the bed
shampoo Jhaz: how’s your feeling after the bed shampoo sir? Jhaz: Thank you for your cooperation sir!
