Purpose

The purpose of this method statement is to outline the correct and safe procedures
required when performing lifting and erection of steel structure. It is also to ensure that
the specified work be carried out safely,preventing any unforeseen incident, injury and
interruption during the course of work.

Responsibility

Project Manager

Responsible in ensuring that all lifting and steel erection activities are executed in
accordance with this procedure in safe manner and responsible in ensuring safety of
all workers throughout the duration of the activity.

Site Engineer

Responsible for the implementation and scheduling of the lifting and steel erection
works and to monitor activities carried out in a safe manner.

Steel Erection Team

Responsible in ensuring all lifting and steel erection activities are carried out in a safe
manner. Follow all the safety requirement to ensure their own safety.
Safety

One of the main aspects for this procedure is safe condition while lifting and erection
of steel structure. This is to prevent occurence of injuries as well damage to any
equipment and properties during the entire duration of works and to make other
provision where necessary to safeguard against any hazard that are in the works or
during the preparation stage. The following safety measures shall be implemented in
order to ensure a safe working environment during the entire lifting and erection of
steel structure.

Erection Area

 This area must be in orderly manner without any obstacle.


 No workers are allowed walking in lifting work area.

General Workers

 General workers involved must be fully equipped with Personal Protective


Equipment(PPE).
 All works shall be carried out safely and workers should alert with
environment of Installation area.

Machinery

 Mobile Crane
 Skylift

PPE Required

 Hard hat
 Safety Footwear
 Safety Harness
 Auto Darkening Shield

Risk Review

Risk Preventive Measures


Lifting Operation 1. Crane must have valid CF.
2. Only Competent Crane
Operator should handling the
mobile-crane.
3. All equipment should be in
good condition.
4. Signal man should guide crane
operator.
5. Safety Briefing.
Working at height 1. Use Proper PPE(Harness).
2. Safety Briefing.
Sequence of work

STEP 1 :

 Set up 2 side columns of braced bay (between Gridline 12 and Gridline 13),
including bracing beams.
 Erect interior columns (along Gridline 12 and Gridline 13) with temporary
bracing.
 Tighten anchor bolts and nuts sufficiently to prevent columns from rocking.
 Assemble rafter components of Gridline 12 and Gridline 13 on the ground into
connection.
 Install all bolts in rafter splices to proper tension.
 Raise the first assembled rafter on top of column by cranes.
 Install bolts of rafter through column connection and tighten to position.
 Secure all temporary, wire ropes bracings, plumb and align the column and
rafter before releasing the crane.

STEP 2 :

 Using same procedure to assemble other parts of the rafter of Gridline 10 and
Gridline 11.
 Place it on top of interior columns.
 Bolt to column connections and tighten.
 Secure temporary bracings.

STEP 3 :

 Assemble the rafter of Gridline 12 and Gridline 13 (same as the first erected
rafters). Connect and bolted to column splices. The crane has to keep holding
the rafter in position until sufficient purlins have installed to provide rigid support
for the bay. The crane can release if having temporary bracing cables for both
sides.
 Continue erecting the next rafters of the brace bay.
 Completing purlins, flange braces, roof bracings.
 Plumb and align before proceeding to erect the next bays.
 After checking the alignment and squareness, tighten again anchor bolts,
column connection, girts bolts and eave strut bolts to required tension.
Emergency Procedures

First Aid

 First Aid box prepared on site.


 Local arrangement for contacting emergency services to be identified.
 Location of nearest clinic and hospital must be known.
 In case of serious accident or injury requiring immediate medical attention call
999.
 Always inform Project Manager or Safety and Health Officer of all accident,
incident and near miss.
 Ensure that all accident, incident or near miss is logged.

Safety Of Other Contractor Or Members Of The Public

 Ensure that other contractors are aware of hazard present.


 No works will be left in a dangerous condition or with risk for themselves,
contractor of members of the public.
 All tools and equipment will be securely stored or remove from site at the end
of each working day.
