1. Tujuan Pembelajaran
Pada akhir pembelajaran, siswa dapat:
a. Membaca nyaring teks fungsional pendek
b. Memahami makna teks fungsional pendek

 Karakter siswa yang diharapkan : Dapat dipercaya ( Trustworthines)


Rasa hormat dan perhatian (respect)
Tekun ( diligence )
2. Materi Pembelajaran
NARRATIVE TEXT
According to Zaida (2009, p. 81) states that narrative tells the story and mainly
used to entertain. Narrative is a fictional type of the text which tells about an event (or
some events) that happened to a person (or a group of people) as if a writer lives with (in)
main characters. A narrative consist of several parts :
- Orientation
This part introduces characters or sets the scene (when/where). It is about the
opening paragraph where the character of the story are introduces, who were involve
in the story, when and where.
- Complication
In this part, the main character is faced to a problem. A problem arises and followed
by other problems, the problem in the story developed.
- Resolution
This part tells how the problem is resolved, for better or worse. Where the problems
in the story is solved, provide solution to the problem.

A narrative mainly used past tense. However, present tense can also be used
within dialogues.

Language features in a narrative :
- Use of nouns
(e.g. : stepsisters, housework, etc)
- Use of adjectives to form noun phrases
(e.g. : long black hair, two red apples, etc)
- Use of time connectives to order the events
(e.g. : then, before that, soon, etc)
- Use of adverbs and adverbials phrases
(e.g. : here, in the mountain, happily ever after, etc)
- Use of action verbs in past tense
(e.g. : stayed, climbed, etc)
- Use of saying verbs in past tense
(e.g. : said, told, promised, etc)
- Use of thinking verbs in past tense
(e.g. : thought, understood, felt, etc)

EXAMPLE TEXT

THE ANT AND THE THE DOVE

One hot day, an ant was serching for some water. Orientation
After walking around for some time, she came to a spring.
To reach the spring she had to climb up a blade of
grass. While making her way up, she slipped and fell into the
water.
She could have drowned if a dove up a nearby tree
had not helped her. Seeing that the ant was in trouble, the Complication
dove quickly plucked a leaf and dropped it into the water near
the struggling ant. The ant moved towards the leaf and
climbed up there. Soon, it carried her safely to dry ground.
Just as that time, a hunter nerby was throwing out
his net towards the dove, hoping to trap it. Guessing what he
was about to do, the ant quickly bit him on the heel. Feeling
the pain, the hunter dropped his net. Quickly, the dove flied Resolution
away to safely.

3.5 Population and sample
3.5.1 Population
Population is sample in a research study is the group on which information
is obtained. The large group to which one hopes to apply the results population.
(Fraenkel & Wallen, 2009, p.90).
The population of this study is the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2
Pagaralam. The total members of population is 361 Students, the distribution of
the population are show in the table 1.

3.5.2 Sample
Sample is a group of people (students, Republicans, foorball players, actor,
and so on) on the experiences they have with a fairly small number. One of the
most important steps in the research process is the selection of the sample of
individuals who will participate (be observed or questioned). Sampling refers to
the process of selecting these individuals. (Fraekel & Wallen 2009, p.90).
In the study the writers used purposive sampling technique. Purposive
sampling is a method of sampling that used the writer’s judgment to select the
sample for a specific purpose. The sample are students who are tough by same
English teacher namely Mrs. Srianah and the sample are students who are through
by same competency in English and also has same equal in number of students.
