QUESTION 1 (20 marks)- COMPULSORY
a) A local farmer in your area has a 2 ha tomato field growing under sprinkler irrigation. He
claims to have little knowledge about different diseases that attack tomato as this is only his
first time growing the crop. He approaches you as he has been told that you are a university
student taking a course in Crop Diseases Management. Using the skills and knowledge you
have acquired in AGA332, you discover that the disease the farmer is worried about is
actually Early Blight caused by a fungus. Write a report with the following as the
subheadings;
i. Causal fungus. [2 marks]
ii. Symptoms. [4 marks]
iii. Control or disease management practices. [4 marks]
b) The family Gramineae is comprised of several crops some of which include maize and
wheat. These crops tend to be attacked by similar diseases. If need be, in which of the two
crops mentioned would you recommend that a farmer uses chemicals as a way of managing
and/or controlling plant diseases? Justify your answer. [10 marks]
Discuss any three methods of disease forecasting. To what extent is forecasting useful in crop
diseases management? [20 marks]
Using a table, highlight the differences between the symptoms exhibited by Grey Leaf Spot and
