Introduction Old age homes are for old people where they are taken care. They are given food and place to live. The old age homes are some institutions run by a trust or some people. The old people who are alone or don't have someone to take care can live in these places. Helpless people of above 60 years irrespective of race, cast and creed can be rehabilitated with the full responsibility in a centre named “Old Age Home/ Old Nursing”. All basic amenities like accommodation, foods, cloths, medicines and other facilities are provided free of cost to the neglected, unable to earn livelihood and helpless old peoples of above 60 years till their death in the centre. Necessary medical facilities are also provided. There is required number of nurses to look after the elderly. The centre may also have its own health care centre, where there are an MBBS doctor and several compounders for treatment of the elderly. Necessary medicines are prescribed and provided free of cost and ambulances are also available in case patients need to be transported to other medical centres/hospitals. It can have a pathological laboratory and Ex-Ray machine for medical diagnosis. The elderly will receive free medical check-up regularly at the medical centre.

There are many reasons for looking for old age homes / retirement care homes in Bangladesh such as migration or location of children due to their work / lack of time in youngsters / neglect / family problems etc. The concept of the old age home has become quite familiar today, but often for the wrong reasons. The idea seems to evoke a sigh of pity which is uncalled for. Firstly, it has been ascertained by social surveys that there need not be any stigma attached to the residents of old age homes and neither do they require our pity. Who can stay in Old Age Home?
Any man, woman, or couple or sisters or brothers above 55/60 years or after retirement can join at Old Age Home. In case of couples at least one of the partners should have attained the age of 55/60 years or after retirement. Special permission is required from the management if the applicant is below this age.
Will the monthly fee stay permanent? When will you increase it?
The Monthly Charge is fare if it is got fixed. Charge can be increased to various factors.
What is the procedure to enroll?
Forms can be found along with the admission prospectus which can be abstained online, or from the Old Age Home office and representatives. Enrollment can be done through call in Helpline numbers or via email. While enrolling do you require proofs of date of birth, nomination, address for an emergency, etc?
Yes, form will take care of all that. No marriage certificate required.

I am single. Can I book an entire Double apartment for myself? Would I have to pay double monthly fees in that case?
Any resident who wants to book an entire double apartment or occupy two seats would have to pay the security deposit entitled for two persons. The refunds would be applicable in the same way. No. The service charges per month would not be doubled. They will remain the same.
I am not a resident of Old Age Home.Can I participate in the programs of Old Age Home and remain attatched with the institution?

Old Age Home can be run commercially. People who older than 55/60 years or after retirement he/she can stay here with a certain amount of money. Payment can be taken on a daily/monthly/yearly basis. Therefore, Old Age Home will run by the payment of its resident. Additionally, a group of people or a public figure, or a social leader may take steps to start an Old Age Home commercially. Firstly, he/she has to find a place where the Old Age Home is to be placed. Secondly, a group of employees like chef/cleaner/staff are needed to hire in a monthly salary basis. Thirdly, he/she has to buy some furniture for every room, kitchen, cabinet, entertainment, dining etc. Fourthly, for medical service he/she has to hire an experienced doctor, he/she has to hire ambulance. Lastly, he/she has to advertise a lot about his/her institution. However, things will not be done until the legislative procedure is done. Because of the shortage of capital, unwillingness or enough courage and inspiration he/she may not be able to continue it properly.

Therefore, staff and employee will have less affection and respect to their resident as well as to the Old Age Home. Moreover, staff and employee may not sincere to their work. It is almost difficult to contact or lodge any complain to the authority. Because, authority is superior and doesn’t come forward. Any kind of financing, repairing, modification is a dilatory process in these circumstances. Because there may be a huge management hierarchy.

Personal or Retirement Communities can be another option to run an Old Age Home. Where an individual or a group of friends/communities are eagerly wants to run an Old Age Home. The people who are going to retire soon or thinking of doing some social welfare after their retirement are the most suitable factor to run an Old Age Home.
