    Am I connected to you? This song for me is very interesting.

    Every line is deep and the choice of words is


    very admirable. Not too complex and not too bland, but just at the right balance and flow. The melody is
    very ethnic, which is very amusing for a person like me that values culture and tradition. Joey Ayala’s
    music making ability is somewhat magical and very fascinating. His style is very original and very
    Makabayan. Some of his songs are about love but most of his songs are about being awake and what it
    means to be a Filipino. But this one is different, it is a reminder that we are connected and I do believe
    that, this song is a call for unity.

    The song starts with a groovy ethnic jive with the line “Lupa, laot, langit ay magkaugnay Hayop,
    halaman, tao ay magkaugnay” it is very interesting to have the knowledge that everything is connected
    to one another and same as the truth that we are alive and living at the present moment, breathing the
    same air, living in the same planet, having the same form and going to the destination each of us is
    unknown.

    If we try to differentiate ourself in every aspect to anyone, there will always be a connection and
    correlation to each both of us. This is due to the fact that we are present in the same moment and we
    have the ability to have thoughts and thus we reflect upon those thoughts, giving the assumption that
    we have something in common. The line "Tayo ay nakasakay sa mundong naglalakbay, Sa gitna ng
    kalawakan, Umiikot sa bituin na nagbibigay-buhay, Sa halaman, sa hayop at sa atin" for me is a
    manifestation that the logic of life is very complex and widely diverse.

    Reflecting upon this, questions piled up in my mind. But one questioned baffled me the most. The
    question “What is the self?” tackling this topic from the previous lessons, I witnessed different
    explanations and beliefs about the “self” from philosophers. But constructing a final conclusion for me is
    a difficult task. Because, I was very amused in every belief, that I can’t chose to whom I believe the most.
    But who do we ask and seek for the answer about the self? If we humans are incapable of
    understanding about our own self. But one thing is for sure that we are connected as Joey’s last stanza
    in his song says “Ang lahat ng bagay ay magkaugnay, Magkaugnay ang lahat.”
