CHAPTER I.
THE BIBLICAL FOUNDATION OF CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
ACTIVITY 1.
Moses led Israelites to get out of Egypt from slavery for 300 years.
Moses.
Moses led Israelites to get out of Egypt. He was determined for the deliverance of
his race out of slavery. He was so democratic in dealing with the people that is
why he won the hearts of each of the Israelites. He was so charismatic, yet firm
in his decision.
c.1 What does God’s promise mean in the story?
God will never leave His people. He will be with them forever.
c.2 What did God save His people from in the story?
God is always with us. Never lose hope in times of troubles and struggles in life.
God’s plan is always the best plan.
To serve Him to the best that I can. Follow His plans and everything will surely
turn well and right.

Activity 2: Read the following passages and write the purpose of God’s calling to these
people.
Exodus 3. 1-10 God sends Moses to Pharaoh to deliver the Israelites out of Egypt.

After Jerusalem was destroyed, the people lost their city, their 1. TEMPLE and their

For those behind and those taken away, the Exile was the time of asking deep
questions; a time of national sorrow and confessing sins.
Hope was focused on restoring the kingdom: Jerusalem, the 3. TEMPLE and the 4.
KING, a descendants of 5. DAVID.
After 50 years, the Jews were allowed to return home and rebuild. They were now a
faith community, not yet a nation. Many Jews remained in Exile.
The walls of Jerusalem were built by 6. NEHEMIAH. The Old Testament scriptures
were assembled by godly 7. PRIESTS and 8. SCRIBES. But, apart from one brief period,
there was never again a 9. KING. The Jews were ruled by succession of foreign powers for
over 500 years.
People looked forward to the fulfilment of God’s promises the coming 10. KING. He
was God’s anointed (Hebrew 11. MESSIAH; Greek 12. CHRIST/KHRISTOS). He was a
descendant of David. He would establish God’s Kingdom on earth.
Mark’s Gospel tells us that 13. JOHN THE BAPTIST came, preparing the way for the
coming king. (Mark 1.1-14).
1. The New Testament was written over a short period of time – no more than two
generations. It is the time when the ROMANS ruled the “civilized world”.
2. The books and letters were written in GREEK - the common language of the empire.
5. As with the Old Testament, there are several different kinds of books in the collection.
(TRUE).
6. These manuscripts were first to be written by Paul and other apostles travelled around
the empire planting new churches and then moving on. They are called LETTERS.
7. The apostles could not normally return to visit the churches because (TRAVEL WAS
SLOW). So, he would write a letter advising them on different matters and send it by a
personal messenger.
8. These books began to be written as early Church realized that Jesus’ return might not be
in their lifetime. It became important to have a written record of his ministry teaching
death and Resurrection. GOSPEL.
9. The second half of Luke’s Gospel and tells the history of the early Church and of the
spread of Christian faith in Rome is the ACTS OF THE APOSTLES.
10. The book gives the vision and writing of a man called John and is about the action of
God in history and behind history is the REVELATION.
10:1-15 Jesus calls his twelve disciples to him and gives them authority
to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and
sickness.
Mark
6:1-12 Jesus was rejected in His own town and He sent out the twelve.
Luke
1:1-18 The Deity of Jesus and John the Baptist was sent ahead of Jesus
to prepare for His arrival.
14:1-31 Jesus says that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life.
CHAPTER III.
EDUCATION AMONG THE HEBREWS
ACTIVITY 1.
What is Shabbat?
Shabbat is the seventh day of the Jewish week and is the day of rest and
abstention from work as commanded by God. shabbat involves two interrelated
commandments: to remember (zachor) and to observe (shamor).
What is Kiddush?
What is Havdalah?
It is the woman who begins with Sabbath celebrations. Why do you think this is so?

JEWISH EDUCATION
God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all Your might. 6 And these words
that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your
children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way,
and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand,
and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of
Activity 2.
Look at the prophet scoreboard. Look over the names. Then, pick three of the names for
some exploration. Look up the writing of the prophets you choose. Find a verse that you
can see in your everyday life. Write that verse in the space.

3. Read Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. Then, write a new verse for this poem – one that reflects in your
life.

TEACHING AND LEARNING IN THE NEW TESTAMENT
GOSPEL SUMMARY
Matthew
1:18-2:23 This gospel passage tell us that (1) the birth of Jesus is the
fulfilment of God’s promise in the Old Testament. (2) Mary
became the mother of Jesus because she accepted the offer of
God with Her whole heart disregarding the consequences of
unusual pregnancy.
9:1-17 The gospel passage tells us the (1) Paralyzed man is healed
and forgiven. (2) The call of Matthew the tax collector. (3) The
new and old covenants and their difference. (4)
Jesus sends out His twelve apostles to spread the good news.
10:1-15
Jesus commissioned His twelve apostles.
Mark
6:1-12 Jesus was rejected in His own town and He sent out the
twelve apostles.
7:1-10 The Pharisees and some of the teachers of the law who had
come from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus and saw some of
his disciples eating food with hands unwashed.
Luke
1:26-56 The Birth of Jesus was Foretold by sending angel Gabriel to
Nazareth to a virgin named Mary who pledged to be married
to a man named Joseph.
4:14-30 Jesus Rejected at Nazareth when He was teaching in their
synagogues.
15:11-32 Jesus taught a Parable of the Lost Son.
John
1:1-18 John comes as a witness to testify concerning that light, so
that through him all might believe. He testifies that the Word
becomes flesh and dwells among the people.
14:1-31 Jesus says that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life.
Activity 2. Summarize in one word/phrase that Jesus is a “Master Teacher” from the
following text.
Mark 12:35-37 Jesus asks question to provoke HOTS (Higher Order Thinking
Skills).
Mark 14:48-50 Jesus teaches us the truth and shows us to have grace under
pressure. He also teaches us facts.
Activity 3. Using the following Biblical text below, infer that Jesus obtained formal or
higher education. Give atleast three main reasons.
Luke 4:16-18 2. He knows how to get the core message of the passages he
read.
3. He has the skill to balance his life and has the grace under
pressure.
Activity 4. Write a “K” after the Biblical verse for Kairos and “C” after the Biblical verse
for Chronos
Activity 5. On the page are listed names and references of the seven parables. Choose
atleast three of the parables to read. On the space provided for, tell how each parable
can be related in your life story.

Activity 6: Read the complete story in the Gospel of John. On the space provided for
below, write how the sign helps you believe and have life.

I believe that it is ONLY through Jesus that we find Salvation. He is the true
mediator in order for us to be with the Father. No one else can do such.
When Jesus said that to His apostles that He is the Way, the Truth, and the
Life, He showed to them that everyone shall believe in Him because He is God. It is
Only God that can give us Life.
CHAPTER VI.
EDUCATION IN PRIMITIVE CHRISTIANITY
Activity 1. Look up the stories listed. Write a sentence that summarizes some of the
Acts of the Apostles.
STORIES SUMMARY
1. The Crippled Beggar Example: Peter tells the beggar that he has
Acts 3:1-10 neither silver or gold, but in the name of
Jesus, he cures the fellow.
4. Philip and the Ethiopian Philip tells the Ethiopian eunuch about
Acts 8:26-39 Jesus, he requests Philip to baptize him.
Activity 2. Read Acts 2:36-47. Identify the most striking characteristics of this first
Christian community.
They believed on what Peter said: “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the
name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of
the Holy Spirit.”
They devoted themselves to the Apostles’ teaching and fellowship to the breaking
and the bread and prayers.
Many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles.
They were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to
all.
They were attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they
received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favour
with all the people.
Activity 3. Outline some of the qualities required in those called to leadership within
the Church.
