Il. Rationale
The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals are a set of global goals for
a sustainable and fair development that targets all the sectors that surround the planet:
environment, peace and prosperity, and end poverty and hunger. For the past years
SDG became the banner of development plans of every country. Aligned with this, the
proponents recognize the SDG’s call to promote health and well-being and came up
with an approach that will maximize available resources and endorse a possible
sustainable livelihood whilst practicing the planet conservation. With this perspective,
Bicol University Jesse M. Robredo Institute of Governance and Development, selected
2nd year Bachelor of Public Administration students ought to have a small community
project entitled: “BAKAL MO, TABANG MO: An Online Advocacy Bazaar for a
Cause”, This project aims to show how delivering on inclusive growth will help
governments focus on the broader challenges posed by the SDG. To protect the planet
and implement the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) and use the outcome of 3Rs for the
proposed project: Online Bazaar which is a fundraising event and promoting SDG’s
Responsible Consumption and Production which will later on contribute to SDG’s Health
and Well-being through donating the online bazaar’s monetary proceeds to Mr. Janille
Imperial, a developmental venous anomaly patient from Talahib Daraga, Albay

Narrative of Implementation
The 3-Day Online Bazaar for a Cause were implemented last April 15-17 and
were extended until May 2, 2022. The products were scrunchies. Crochet keychains
and hairties, bookmarks, and pre-loved clothes. The proponents posted the items via
Facebook personal account by which the other members shared to different Facebook
groups and marketplace. Since some of the pre-loved clothes, keychains, and
bookmarks weren’t sold during the 3-Day Bazaar, the proponents extended the event
until May 2, 2022 to further collect more sales. The delivery was also done during the
said period. Overall, the event was a success as the proponents were able to collect
P3,475.

Impression/Reflection
Ensuring healthy lives and promoting the well-being of all is vital to sustainable
development. According to Dr. Oliver Scott Curry of the University of Cognitive-
Evolutionary Anthropology: “People are social animals. Helping members of society, co-
workers, friends, relatives and even random people (in some circumstances) makes it to
where we feel happier”. One of the reasons why we implemented this project is because
we want to help. We want to share the joy that we feel in this world by helping others to
also find the means to be happy again and have hope that no matter how hard life is,
there’s always a way to overcome our hardships. By helping others, we let them have a
sense of belonging to our society for we can strengthen our social connections which
then gives a good contribution to the wellbeing of each individual. I am very glad that we
are able to help Mr. Imperial on his journey to continuing his medication. We did not see
this project as just a fulfillment of academic requirements, but our hearts are genuinely
sincere because we are very willing to help our classmate’s brother. I know how hard it
is to witness someone you love who suffers from a certain illness. It affects your mental,
emotional, and even physical well-being too. I remember the saying “Do not stop doing
the little things to others because that’s what matters the most”. This online bazaar may
be seen as just a small thing by others but for us and the Imperial Family, this was a big
deal. It was a very big help to cover the medical expenses of Mr, Janille. One order from
a customer makes us feel great joy. We are very grateful to those who supported us
right from the very start. I know that many people were inspired and will be inspired by

this advocacy. Let us remember that being a kind person and doing good deeds is the
key to good well-being. As you make someone happy, you are going to treasure that
moment, and the person you helped will surely pay you back in the future. Being united
and helping others to bring happiness helps to achieve the sustainable development
goals and to make the world a better place.
