3M™ Cold Shrink Termination Kits

3M™ QT-II Indoor Silicone Rubber

Termination Kits

5620K Series
Voltage Rating: 5-15 kV
Meets IEEE 48, Class 1

The 5620K series terminations are one piece, non-skirted Cold Shrink
rubber designed specifically for shielded cables, tape, wire and
Uni Shield™ from 5kV to 15 kV indoor applications. Just five kits cover
the complete application range from 8 AWG to 1500 kcmil.
The Cold Shrink delivery system of the 5620K series requires no
torches or heat. You simply unwind the core and the termination
shrinks tight. The series also features a mechanical groundstrap.
There’s no soldering and no worries about heat related cable damage.
The Hi-K stress control tube eliminates bulky stress cones, making the termination almost the same
diameter as the cable. And, because they require cable cutback of only 6-1/2 to 9 inches (depending on
cable and kit size), the compact design of the 5620K can be a real space saver in either an upright or
inverted application. The 5620K series is an integrated, one-piece termination - no extra parts or adapters
are needed. All the materials needed to make three Class 1 terminations are included in one box.

3M™ Cold Shrink Termination Kits

3M™ QT-II w Kits 5630K Series

Voltage Rating:
5-35 kV, IEEE 48, Class I

The 5630K series kits are Class 1 terminations and will accommodate shielded cables, tape
wire and UniShield™ from 5 kV to 15 kV. With an additional insulator (sold separately), the
5630K will handle 25 kV and 35 kV. Just four kits cover the complete application range from
2 AWG through 1500 kcmil. Each kit contains enough material to make three terminations.
The 5630K series combines silicone rubber superiority and Hi-K stress control with Cold
Shrink convenience to make terminating shielded cables in both indoor and outdoor
applications fast, easy and reliable without heat or flame.

The silicone rubber insulator provides superior protection against moisture and industrial
airborne contamination. QT-II consists of High-K stress control tube insulated with a molded
silicone inserted insulator. The need for bulky stress cones and unnecessary length is
eliminated, requiring less space in tight termination locations. The exclusive Cold Shrink core
design flares the base of the termination for easy positioning over the shielded cable and
jacket, eliminating the need for special adaptors.

3M™ Cold Shrink™ Termination Kits
3M™ QT-Ill Outdoor Silicone Rubber Termination Kits
3M Cold Shrink QT-Ill terminations offer easy installation and reliable performance when
terminating indoor and outdoor medium voltage cable. The built-in Hi-K stress controlling
compound along with the built in sealing compound means simpler installation on all types
of cables. These factory applied compounds make field installation easier and reduce
installation errors. Plus its high-K stress design delivers excellent BIL performance and
lower surface stress resulting in a more compact termination. Through superior
engineering, 3M Cold Shrink QT-Ill terminations deliver maximum performance.

QT-Ill Inverted applications

Terminations that are inverted inside of equipment (switchgear, transformers, etc.) can be
made using the QT-Ill indoor tubular design. However, for outdoor applications, skirted
terminations are recommended. The standard skirts of most terminations are oriented to
shed water when installed in the upright direction. The skirts could collect moisture and
contamination when inverted. This could lead to tracking problems. 3M has designed the
7600-S-INV series inverted kits to eliminate this problem. These inverted kits are
recommended for all outdoor inverted applications.

Insulation Piercing Connector

Type ABCC Series for LV ABC
Product Description
The 3M ABCC Series Insulation piercing connector (IPC) consists of climatic and UV resistant
glass reinforced polyamide body having inbuilt natural hardened aluminium alloy piercing
contact plates. The IPC is in two halves, interconnected with self insulated and potential free
hot dip galvanized bolt with shearoff type hex head. When installed on the cable cores, the
contact plate pierces the insulation and makes good electrical contact between the main and
tap core conductors. The connection is insulated and provides IP 68 seal.

The IPC is used in L.V. Aerial Bunched cable systems for achieving quick, reliable, insulated and
weather proof branch/tap connections.

CCI Series
Conductor Cover Insulation

The 3M™ CCI Series Animal Protection Products are

extruded silicone rubber products that are designed for field
installation over bare conductors and metal mounting
brackets. These covers provide alayer of electrical insulation
for phase-to-phase and phase-to-ground protection from bird
contact. They are cut to length in the field for a proper fit.
The silicone rubber material provides for electrical insulation.
UV resistance and tracking resistance. These products are
designed to provide protection for both equipment and birds.

The CCI series Conductor Covers are designed to insulate bare aerial conductors from adjacent phases
and grounded equipment. The covers are made with a full-length longitudinal bias cut to provide an
increased creepage distance between the conductor and the outer surface of the cover. And to allow for
easy slip-on installation. The covers are offered in two thickness sizes for covering both 15 kV and 25 kV
rated conductors. The products are available in ACSR conductor sizes from 2 AWG to 266 kcmil.

3M™ Aluminum Conductor Composite Reinforced (ACCR) is an all-

aluminumbased conductor designed to improve transmission capacity,
even in challenging situations and environments.
The tremendous advantages of 3M ACCR are due to innovations in the
materials used. Compared to conventional steel core conductors, the
3M ACCR core has:

• Equivalent strength and durability

• Less weight
• Better corrosion resistance
• Equivalent modulus
• Higher electrical conductivity
• Lower thermal expansion

This permits the use of higher operating temperatures, which in turn leads to higher ampacities. Both the core and the outer
aluminum-zirconium strands contribute to the overall conductor strength and conductivity

Physical Characteristics

Aluminum Strands 3M™ Aluminum Fiber Core

The aluminum strands are composed of an aluminum-zirconium alloy and are Each strand of 3M™ ACCR core wire is reinforced with tens of thousands of

the International Annealed Copper Standard (IACS). with significantly less sag than standard options. 3M™ Aluminum Fiber Core
The aluminum-zirconium strands are a hard drawn aluminum with mechanical
properties very similar to 1350-H19 aluminum (23-25 ksi, 158-172 MPa)
ultimate tensile strength. This is NOT a soft annealed aluminum. The addition
of a small amount of zirconium to the aluminum confers the property of heat
resistance. That is, the aluminumzirconium may be heated to high
temperatures, without softening (annealing) and losing its strength like 1
350-H19 aluminum would. Thus when the aluminum-zirconium cools to
ambient temperatures, it retains its strength.

Core Strands
The core strands contain aluminum oxide fibers embedded in highpurity
aluminum forming a wire. This type of material is called a fiber reinforced
metal matrix. It contains NO polymers or plastic: the base material is metallic
aluminum. This material confers the properties that make 3M™ ACCR
conductor lightweight, while performing with high strength and low sag at
high temperatures. This is because the fiber reinforced metal matrix
composite has strength equivalent to steel, with weight (density) similar to
aluminum, but with less thermal expansion than steel and strength retention
at high temperatures. Additionally, some of the secondary properties are also
favorable. These include low creep, high electrical conductivity (from the
aluminum constituent), and corrosion resistance (similar to aluminum).

the same dimensions for wire sizes and conductor sizes. Aluminumzirconium high-purity aluminum.
layers are helically stranded using the same lay lengths and lay directions as
ACSR. The core wires are also helically stranded but use longer lay lengths
than the steel cores found in ACSR.

Description
IPTTFT® composites are a family of laminates based on IPT’s advanced high performance hybrid insulation material, TufQUIN® 110, combined with polyester film.
Typical constructions consist of a thin ply ofTufQUIN 110 hybrid inorganic/organic paper bonded to both sides of polyester film using a high temperature resin
system. Typical product properties for standard combinations of TufQUIN 110/polyester film/TufQUIN 110 (TFT) laminates are shown in Table 1.

Applications
T ufQUIN TFT laminate insulations are designed for use as slot cell, phase and wedge insulation for motors and generators through Class 180(H). They may also be
used as layer and ground insulation in dry-type transformers. TFT laminates provide excellent value in use as they exhibit a balanced blend of electrical, physical
and thermal capabilities on a cost effective basis. They are the product of choice for manufacturers seeking to improve the reliability of their equipment by
upgrading the performance of the flexible electrical insulation used.

Physical Characteristics
TufQUIN® TFT laminate insulations are designed to meet the high performance requirements found in Class 180(H) rotating electrical apparatus and dry-type
transformers rated up to Class 200(N). TufQUIN 110 provides a tough, tear resistant, thermally stable outer layer that protects the polyester film core. The smooth
abrasion resistant surface ofTufQUIN 110 lends itself well to automatic insertion operations, yet bonds well to standard dipping varnishes and encapsulating resins.

Inorganic-based insulation. Applied to enabling smaller, higher-temperature transformers.

3M™ Liquid-Filled Transformer Insulation

• Excellent Thermal Stability (up to Thermal Class 155°C)
• Low Moisture Absorption
• High Thermal Conductivity

Higher standards for liquid-filled transformers are emerging globally. New 3M™Liquid-Filled Transformer Insulation (LFT insulation) helps meet them.
There's a traditional design response to higher efficiency requirements. The result is usually greater transformer size and weight. The need is for a higher thermal
performance solid transformer insulation (per IEEE C57.154™ and IEC 60076-14). The solution is LFT insulation from 3M.
LFT insulation can take the stress. It has undergone long-term thermal aging tests (tested per IEEE C57.100""-2011 Annex A and B). As a result, LFT insulation
has been assigned a 155°C Thermal Class rating in mineral oil. This is 35°C higher than existing thermally upgraded kraft (TUK) insulation.
Best of all, this can help reduce transformer size when combined with high-temperature materials, such as ester oils. Consider a coil design optimized for a
higher thermal class. Use of LFT insulation can allow less conductor, less liquid, a smaller tank and potentially lower overall material cost
(depending upon the design).

Applications
• Liquid-filled distribution and traction transformers up through Thermal Class 155°C
• Layer Insulation
• Layer Insulation with Diamond Dot Adhesive
• Low-Density Board Insulation
• High-Density, Calendered Board Insulation

Features Advantages Benefits

Enables higher applied loads with same transformer life or smaller
Operates at a higher temperature than conventional
Excellent thermal stability, up to Thermal Class 155°C transformers with a reduction in material
cellulose-based insulation systems
(depending upon design)

Can help reduce energy costs and decrease manufacturing cycle

Low moisture absorption Reduces transformer coil drying time
time with excellent dimensional stability

High thermal conductivity Lowers coil hot spot temperature Increases transformer overload capability

Sustainability RoHS & REACH Compliant* Meets global environmental standards*

3M™ BBI-A Series Busbar Tubing
3M BBI-A tubing is made of specially formulated, cross-linked, flame-retardant, track-resistant polyolefin that
will shrink to fit rectangular, square or round busbars. BBI-A will handle voltage ranges from 600 V to 35 kV,
reducing your inventory requirements and saving you time and money. BBI-A material has a high resistance to
splitting, while providing the flexibility to conform to bends in certain applications. Superior split resistance can
prevent insulation failures and resulting downtimes. BBI-A is unaffected by normal cleaning fluids and is resistant
to physical damage. Good thermal endurance (up to 110°C/ 230° F) contributes to longer life and more stable
performance. Excellent dielectric strength allows the required space between busbars and metal enclosures
to be substantially reduced. Closer spacing reduces both the overall size of the assembly, and the overall cost.
Note: Busbar is packaged one roll per case 20 or 50 feet long.

3M™ HDCW
Wraparound Heat Shrink Cable Repair

3M HOCW Heat Shrink Wraparound Cable Repair Sleeves are designed to

quickly repair damaged cable jacketing. They may also be used to rejacket
in-line splices. HOCW wrap sleeves can be used as insulation material on
cable and splices up to 1000 volts and as jacket repair material on cable up
to 35 kV. The design of the wrap sleeve allows it to be installed in tight spaces
with ordinary heating equipment such as a torch.

The HOCW is made from modified cross-linked polyelofin, with hot-melt adhesive lineron the inner side of the sleeve. Upon
heating, the sleeve shrinks and the adhesive melts, creating a water-tight bond between the sleeve and the cable. HOCW
Wraparound Cable Repair Sleeves meet ANSI C119.1 requirements. A corrosion proof metal channel is used to close the
sleeve during installation. 3M HOCW wrap sleeves are stock in four lenghts and five diameters. Other cut lenghts are
available upon request.

CTW-3, CTW-4 Tubing

Adhesive lined, 3:1 and 4:1, Flexible, Polyolefin

Product Description
3M™ CTW-3 and CTW-4 are flexible heat shrinkable tubing with a hot melt
adhesive inner wall. The excellent flow property of adhesive ensures good
environment sealing of complex parts. As this tubing shrinks, molten adhesive
flows and is forced into gaps and crevices. When the adhesive cools it forms a
seal against moisture and other fluids whilst the outer wall provide mechanical
protection. CTW-3 and CTW-4 are rated for operation at -45oC to 125oC,
adhesive reflow will occur at temperature above 85oC.

Typical Applications
CTW-3 and CTW-4 can offer superb environment protection for electronic
components, wire splices, wire bundles and harness breakouts. Automotive
truck and marine wire splices and harness breakouts are also quickly and easily
protected from a variety of harsh environments.

Shrink Ratio
CTW-3 Tubing has a 3:1 shrink ratio. When freely recovered, the tubing will shrink to 33% of its original diameter. CTW-4 Tubing
has a 4:1 shrink ratio. When freely recovered, the tubing will shrink to 25% of its original diameter. The recovered wall thickness of
the tubing is proportional to the degree of recovery.
