SELF-DIRECTED BLENDED MEDICAL

LABORATORY SCIENCE INTERNSHIP TRAINING

WORKBOOK

HEMATOLOGY

BERNARD EBUEN, RMT, MSMT, MAEd

PREFACE
The Covid-19 pandemic has challenged the academic practitioners to innovate their
methodologies in facilitating student learning. The suspension of face-to-face
classes has totally shifted teaching and learning modalities into a more
technologically base educational approach thru various learning management
systems. Students’ mobility was limited to their own homes or dormitories to
protect themselves from contracting the deadly virus afflicting the entire world.
Thus, the shift to virtual, and the electronic medium of learning is the most
convenient and accessible available platform for them to continue their education.

This Self-Directed Blended Medical Laboratory Science Internship Training

Workbook: Hematology was developed as supplemental material for flexible or
blended (virtual and face-to-face) learning modality of the Medical Laboratory
Science (MLS) internship program. This workbook is designed to cater both student
learning thru offline or online modes.

This training workbook follows the Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) design of

instruction. The learning guide part of this workbook provides various self-directed
learning activities to choose from based on the learning styles and available
learning materials of the student learners. The learning outcomes are classified
according to domains: cognitive and psychomotor. Students are required to search
information from available online or offline references to find answers for cognitive
learning outcomes. Cognitive and psychomotor applications are applied and
measured thru various on-the-job tasks. Psychomotor skills requiring manual
dexterity or actual hands-on manipulations shall be carried at the clinical site if
face-to-face sessions are feasible. Affective domains are expected to be
demonstrated by the students during the course of clinical internship.

Lastly, this training workbook is intended to supplement and enhance student

achievement of the internship competencies/course outcomes in the clinical
laboratory internship training course as specified under the CHED CMO#13 series
of 2017, and CHED-DOH JMC 2021-001: Annex F-Guidelines on the Conduct of
Clinical Laboratory Internship Training Of Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory
Science Students During Pandemic Period, and must be implemented with the
internship training program prepared both by the HEI and the Clinical Site.
