A. Come up with a creative and witty hashtag (or slogan) to capture your main take-
away from the Managerial Economics in a Changing Climate. The hashtag may
be about your aspirations about solving the many environmental problems that
plague our planet, advocacies you want to advance, or just a direct message you
want to convey to others about taking care of the only planet we have. (10
points)
B. Using your hashtag or slogan in (1) as starting point, write a reflection paper on:
1. the reality (it’s not a hoax!) of climate change due to human activity; (5
points)
2. how solar and other renewable sources of energy can curb our appetite
for fossil fuel in economic and financially viable ways, (5 points) and
3. how will you, as business managers in the future, convince your employer
that it makes better business sense for the firm to adopt more eco-
friendly energy sources. (10 points)
My Hashtag: #RenewToStartAnew
#RenewToStartAnew, for more than a century, we’ve been utilizing the use of
fossil fuel as a source of our energy, and it eventually reached the point where we
became dependent on it. However, this dependence has given our environment a huge
problem, pollution, and climate change. Fossil fuels are burned and due to this process,
they release greenhouse gasses that trap heat within our atmosphere. This then
contributes to global warming, which causes our climate to change as the temperature
trapped inside our atmosphere gradually increases. Please do note that even though
this increase is gradual, we’ve been using coal since the 1880s which means we’ve
been experiencing this gradual increase for about 142 years, not to mention the rapid
adoption of this form of energy a few decades after its invention. It is time to
#RenewToStartAnew as our environment continues to deteriorate and our dependence
to fossil fuels have fueled many economic problems. A new beginning towards the right
path must be made and followed.
Solar and renewable energy sources can completely change our appetite for
fossil fuels due to the fact that they cost less over time and have a better environmental
impact as they do not cause pollution and greenhouse gas accumulation. The case
study which was shown in the webinar, clearly states that Pampanga’s best would save
up to 6 pesos per kilowatt when they utilize solar energy as they could even assume
that the transmission cost of grid energy is 0 but would still have a lower cost. This goes
to show how eco-friendly and cost-effective renewable energy is.
