REFLECTION PAPER

In today’s society we should understand and apply in life the word

‘morality’. In this lesson I get to look back at our lesson back when I was in
junior year. Along with that, I also get to understand more of its concepts and
meaning as the video presented this lesson well.

The first part discussed the meaning of morality, in which I am very

familiar with as this is also part of our lessons in my previous years and I also
get to hear this word a lot. Basically morality is about how people behave,
based on the standards of people. We have different perceptions or opinions
and with that, other actions may be good for us however other people might
see it in different way, in other context an action may or may not be
acceptable depending on the society and person’s expectation. I agree that
we are able to develop our morality based on the people that surrounds us
such as family. Family is the main source as we are with them for a long time,
since we are little we get to adopt the behavior that they always show.
Education, custom and religion are also the sources of morality. Morality is
also applied and can be seen in the administration as we are facing different
challenges such as economic competition, globalization and other changes.
According to my way of thinking, it is indeed needed to apply morality to the
administration in which it should be acceptable to the people and the group. In
my observation, we can see how the administration act and how they apply
morality when an action and decision is needed in a certain problem. We set
our own expectation and standards and sometimes people look for the
concepts of action that they expected such as for the administration to be
accountable, transparency and objectivity. Moreover, I go along with what
Paul Appleby stated that what’s more important is that morality itself could
shape a better government. The presentation also include the relationship
between ethics and morality where in both are related on how people deal
with what is good or bad and what is the right and wrong doings. Morality vs.
Law was also presented in which for me it is true that they are shaping each
other as law influence morality and vice versa. Moral vs. Religion in which
religion is more than morality, we can observe this in our society that what is
not be accepted in the religion may still considered as a moral act. There are
previous year questions and my answer to the 2018 is that means is more
important because we should consider the steps that we are taking when we
are doing something. For me at the end of the day, it is how we take and
achieve something conventionally. For the 2017, I agree that we need to have
common values in order to understand each other and with that our economy
will get to function. Understanding on what Max Weber stated I can say that
what he’s pointing out is that we should leave our norms out of the
administration. As ethical and moral norms are different for personal and in
work like the government and the members are doing their jobs, making
decisions according to the interest of larger people. Administration make
constitutions and it is given that not all people will accept it base on their
situation and based on what they believe is morally right. With that they might
use their own morality for their personal benefits. Swami Vivekananda said
that which is selfish if immoral and what is unselfish is moral. He also stated
that the ideal of morality and unselfishness goes hand in hand. I must say that
it is accepted by many as we are influenced by many people and we think that
what is good for larger people is moral. That is how people set their
standards.

On the other hand, I believe that all we have to do is to respect what other
people think about something, accept what is morally right for them as we
have differences and similarities that will shape us as a better person.
