❑ ABSTRACT
• Spotwelding machine requires a lot of space requires a lot of space, is heavy,
restricted by height and does not weld at any angle.
• In this project, we have tried to overcome the above problems by recreating the
design.
• We made it a simpler, lighter, portable, compact and flexible machine which will be
able to weld at any angle and can be easily operated by even a non-skilled Labour
with much ease and required accuracy.
• We studied various research papers and concluded that a portable spot welding
machine is required.
• For creating this machine we used modeling software such as solid works and created
a prototype based on its design.
• In this project we made our own transformer according to Requirements of
specifications for welding as a general transformer used in electronic appliances was
costly and as well as Bulky.
• Key-words: Portable Spot welding machine, Fabrication, Working Analysis.
❑ INTRODUCTION

• Resistance welding is one of the oldest of the electric welding

processes in used by the industrial today.
• The weld is made by a combination of heat, pressure and time.
• As the name welding implies, it is the resistance of the material to be
welded to current flow that causes a localized heating in the part.
• The pressure exerted by the tongs and electrode tips, through which
the current flows, holds the parts to be well did in intimate contact
before, during and after the welding current time cycle.
• The required amount of time current flows in the joint is determined by
the material thickness and the type, the amount of current flowing,
and the cross sectional area of the welding tip contact surfaces.
❑ OBJECTIVE

Spot welding (also known as resistance spot welding) is

a resistance welding process. This welding process is
used primarily for welding two or more metal sheets
together by applying pressure and heat from an
electric current to the weld area.
❑ BLOCK DIAGRAM
❑ EQUIPMENT

1. COPPER ROD:

• Copper road is used for tip

making of 6 to 8 mm thick
and 2 inch long outer third
mad.
• Used as main part which
produce spot for spot
welding.
2. COPPER PLATE

Copper plate specially designed for

spot welding for pulse used only
circuit required for normal
operation. This copper plate is used
for absorbing and dissipating heat
so spot welding can be used easily.
3. WELDING CABLE

This pure copper wire specially designed for

spot welding which is 25 and 35 Sq mm thick.
Used to provide current to spot for spot
welding. Connected from transformer to spot
machine.
4. SPORT WELDING TRANSFORMER

transformer pure copper wire specially
designed for spot welding for pulse
used only timer circuit required for
normal operation very efficient
transformer.
❑ APPLICATIONS

• Joining of vehicle body parts.

• Fuel tanks.
• Railway tracks.
• Pipes of gas oil and water pipelines.
• Domestic radiators.
• Turbine blades.
❑ FUTURE DEVELOPMENT

• The new technologies of resistance spot welding, which

has been widely used for auto body production, are
significant to realise the high collision safety of car
body.
• In future it will be used with high cooling features..
• In future fan and other cooling equipment can be used.
ADVANTAGES
❑ADVANTAGES

• High welding rates.

• Law fumes.
• Cost effectiveness.
• Easy automation.
• No filler materials are required.
• Low distortions.
❑ DISADVANTAGES

• High equipment cost.

• Low straight in case of discontinuous welds.
• Thickness of well dead seeds is limited – up to ¼”
(6mm).
❑ CONCLUSION

• The sheet metals are thin and do not possess any strengthas cast
iron and still do so, arc and gas welding will not be suitable for the
welding of sheet metals.
• In the scenario, spot weld came into the field and showing its
significance.
• The resistance spot weld is a permanent joining processes and
does not require any special electrodes or filler metals to jion the
workpieces, this is actually what made the resistance spot welding
unique from others.
• We cannot compare spot weld with other types of welding because
each type has its significance and role play in its own way.
