LEARNING OBJECTIVE
At the end of the lesson the pupils should be able to:
1. Classify objects and materials as solid, liquid and gas based on some observable
characteristic. (S3MT-Ic-d-2).

I. LEARNING RESOURCES

II. PROCEDURES
Preliminary Activities
 Opening Prayer
 Checking of Attendance

A. Activity
 The teacher will group the pupils into four. They are going to have a game called
“Groufie”. The teacher will present 12 pictures in every group. They are going to
group the pictures into three according to their similarities. They will be given 1
minute to finish the task. The more pictures to group correctly the highest score
they will get.

B. Analysis
 The teacher will ask questions to the pupils based on the game;
- What are the objects in the pictures have you group in the first group?
- What are the objects in the pictures have you group in the second group?
- What are the objects in the pictures have you group in the third group?
- What is the most common similarity of the objects in every group?

 The teacher will show pictures of three containers with molecules inside and ask
question;
- What have you observed on the movement of the molecules on the first
picture?
- What have you observed on the movement of the molecules on second
picture
- What have you observed on the movement of the molecules on the third
picture?

C. Abstraction
 The teacher will present the topic which is about the phases of matter.
 The teacher will present the first phase of matter which is Solid and ask the
pupils to give examples.
 The teacher will ask the pupils about the characteristics of Solid objects.
 The teacher will present the properties of Solid and ask the pupils to give
examples.
 The teacher will present the second phase of matter which is Liquid and ask the
pupils to give examples.
 The teacher will ask the pupils about the characteristics of Liquid substances.
 The teacher will present the third phase of matter which is Gas and ask the pupils
to give examples.
 The teacher will ask the pupils about the characteristics of Gas materials.
 The teacher will ask the pupils to summarize the differences of Solid, Liquid and
Gas.

D. Application
 With the same group of pupils the teacher will assigned every group with
pictures. They are going to classify objects that they will see in the pictures if it is
Solid, Liquid and Gas. They will finish the task in one minute.

 The teacher will ask one representative from every group to present their
answers.
 Aside from the given pictures and explained by the pupils the teacher will give
another example that phases of matter could be applied in real life situation.

Example: If we experience failure, still firm like a solid but we must always
remember that failure is part in achieving our dreams. There are times that we
must go with the flow like a liquid. We must enjoy every moment in our lives
whether it is good or bad because there’s no turning back of time. It is like an air
moving out from its container that will never go back again.

III. EVALUATION
Direction: Classify the following objects or materials as Solid, Liquid or Gas. Write your
answers before the number.
