Preparation
Introduction(Please begin demo with this introduction)
Like many large global companies, Air France must be able to monitor results from many dispersed locations. The client-server sales management system that you will see today greatly improved Air France managements access to sales and ticketing information from over 40,000 travel agents across the U.S.. Before the implementation of the Agency Information Monitoring System(AIMS), Air Frances sales data was trapped on a mainframe in a proprietary database. Reports ran slowly, produced inconsistent results, and were almost impossible to maintain. Managers had no easy to use, on-line system, and therefore had to wait until the paper reports were distributed to review their sales data. Working with MediaServ, a Microsoft Solution Provider, Air France developed a client-server EIS system based on Microsoft SQL Server for Windows NT and Microsoft Office. Topic Script The AIMS system was developed using the MS Office suite of products. The interface you see when you first enter the system was developed in Excel 5.0 using the Visual Basic for Applications macro language. Being able to customize the application and glue the Office components such as Excel, Word, and Mail using Visual Basic for Applications were both critical requirements in the development of the AIMS system. Enterprise wide data access was also critical Through the ODBCs SQL driver, Excel 5.0 is able to dynamically access enterprise data off SQL Server running on Windows NT. We are now in the sales management module. Table builder allows us to select any data we want and then it builds an Excel 5.0 table for us. The data is accessed through a live connection to SQL Server on Windows NT. Lets take a look at the sales data from Los Angeles. We want to understand how our different sales representatives are performing and we will use Excel 5.0 pivot table technology to do that. POWERFUL CHARTING CAPABILITIES PROVIDE FLEXIBILITY IN DATA DISPLAY

With chart builder, we can create a chart of our data. Now we are looking at a chart showing total ticket sales for the past 10 months. It is broken out for each of the sales reps. and by ticket class. We can rotate the chart to show any view we want using these custom controls We can also easily change the chart type so the sales manager can display the data in the most effective format. Lets go back to the column chart. It displays our data better It looks like Eric Goering is having some problems. With the AIMS system, the sales manager can quickly identify an underperforming sales rep. and put together a plan to get the rep. back on track. We can also drill down on a specific number and use the autofilter capabilities in Excel 5.0 to better understand the data. Looks like Jane is doing an incredible job of selling Economy class tickets. Lets try to understand why. We now have a breakdown of the $604,372. Lets create a custom autofilter to display the agencies that are the big hitters for Jane. We can see that Jane has established a lucrative business with Mill-Run Tours. We may want to better understand why that agency is so successful Using the AIMS system, we can also create reports using Word 6.0 and OLE 2 automation, export the SQL server data to a local Access database, and route the sales data using MS Mail. Air France initially plans to deploy this system to the regional managers to help them manage their sales reps. Later, however, they may deploy a cross platform version on both Windows based
