Land degradation
o Inability to grow anything on the land because it is too dry
CO2 Emission
Qatar annually releases 32.4 tons per capita (the highest
in the world currently from fossil fuels)
o 0.31% of the world’s carbon emission
Our Goal
o Research the effects of CO2 emissions in Qatar
o Come up with a solution to decrease CO2 emissions in Qatar
Our Thought Process
1. We identified the source of the
problem.
2. We looked through ways Qatar tried to
combat this issue.
3. We researched potential solutions
4. We created a matrix to organize our
thoughts

Carbon Mineralization
The process by which some minerals react
with CO2 gas and turn it into a solid.
Issues with Carbon Mineralization
oProcess is very slow (100s or 1000s of years)
oUseless by products (ash, dust, iron, etc.)
Proposed solution:
oEnhance exposure of these minerals to CO2 (more
concentration = faster reaction)
o Pumping CO2 into minerals that suit the conditions
o I.e. Pumping alkaline water
Carbon Capture
Carbon Capture, Utilization, and storage (CCUS), and its
role in reducing the emission process of carbon dioxide
into the atmosphere.
The process includes capturing CO2 from combustion,
transporting it through pipelines, and store it
underground.
How can Qatar benefit from implementing such
technologies into their power plants?
The pros and cons of such systems within
the Qatar power plants.
Renewable Energy – Solar panels
Solar panels rely on sunlight as an energy source to
generate direct current electricity.
Al-Kharsaah solar power project, is a large-scale
solar power plant
Project will be able to meet 10% of the peak
electricity demand in the country.
