Economic Data Analysis

Medicare spending has risen steadily throughout the years as a result of the products and

services that healthcare providers provide to their patients. Healthcare spending refers to the total

amount of money spent on medical goods and services, including personal care such as curative

and long-term care. As technology advances, healthcare providers will undoubtedly charge

people more in order to keep up with the innovations in goods and services. However, because

some people may not be able to pay for it, this makes it much more difficult for patients to get

the treatment they require. Overall, healthcare is critical because it has the potential to save lives

and improve people's overall health and well-being.

Analysis of Trends

There were numerous patterns in the states' implementation of expenses and utilization.

Medicare payouts per enrollee have grown by more than 15% in New York. Medicare

reimbursements are critical in the healthcare industry because they enable hospitals to provide

high-quality, low-cost services to patients that would otherwise be unavailable. This is beneficial

since it benefits both hospitals and patients because they are able to deliver the highest quality

care to patients at a lower cost. Another trend was end-of-life care for chronically ill individuals.

From 24.1 percent in 2011 to 20.4 percent in 2018, the percentage of chronically sick Medicare

beneficiaries dying in hospitals has fallen. In addition, the number of days spent by chronically

ill patients reduced from 9.8 to 8.5. Chronically ill people in New York, on the other hand, spent

around two weeks in the hospital in the last six months of their lives. The percentage of

chronically ill individuals dying has dropped from 2011 to 2018. This is a favorable trend. This

is significant because it could indicate that advances in technology and the provision of higher-

quality treatment have resulted in fewer individuals dying. In line with this trend, the total
3

number of physician visits fell from 28.8 in 2011 to 26.3 in 2018. Patients in some areas, on the

other hand, have seen ten or more patients in the final six months of their lives. New York had

the greatest rate of seeing more than ten patients, at 68.3 percent. The thirty-day readmissions are

the most recent trend. Several medical disorders, including heart failure, myocardial infarction,

and pneumonia, were reduced in patients who were readmitted after discharge. In New York,

more than 15.2 percent of patients were readmitted within 30 days of medical discharge. This is a

negative trend because readmission rates have decreased, implying that fewer patients are

seeking treatment for their medical condition. Following this trend, the usage of ambulatory

visits increased slightly from 78 percent to 80 percent. In New York, the rate of patients using

this service has declined to 62.1 percent. These trends appeared to be beneficial in general,

although there may be a rise in these services as well.

Conclusion

Finally, while Medicare costs have increased, several healthcare groups are working to

make it more cheap for patients. The utilization and expenditures in New York may undoubtedly

be used to strengthen the health-care brand. Increasing these trends and developing strategies to

ensure that patients use these goods and services will undoubtedly aid patients in receiving the

high-quality treatment they require, as well as hospitals in general. This will also encourage more

patients to seek treatment, which will benefit both the hospital and the patients. Overall, I believe

that a stronger brand may be established based on the improvements that can be done based on

the rates within declining patterns.
