Bored Ape Yacht Club

Bored Ape Yacht Club acquired CryptoPunks and Meebits collection from Larva Labs.
With this acquisition, they will own the CryptoPunks and Meebits brands and logos, and
as they’ve done with their own BAYC collection, the company will transfer IP,
commercial, and exclusive licensing rights to individual NFT holders. BAYC plans to
incorporate CryptoPunks and Meebits into physical projects across the world. Bored
Apes are turning into Mutant Apes through another Yuga Labs project, and owners are
hanging out in the collaborative graffiti board known as The Bathroom. In December
2021, an art gallery owner's Bored Apes collection, worth $2.2 million dollars, was
stolen. He was caught in a phishing attack when he clicked on a link that looked like an
NFT decentralized application.

 The proprietors of CryptoPunks were dissatisfied with the manner Larva Labs
handled IP rights to the NFTs they purchased. Because tokenization does not
instantly transmit copyrights or other kinds of intellectual property, economic
exploitation of NFTs is problematic. The NFT holders will receive complete
commercial rights from Yuga Labs. The value of these rights is that you can
build now in the digitally native world.
 The rights to Meebits & CryptoPunk holders are:
i. Up to $100K per year
ii. No digital collaboration (physical goods only)
iii. No brand collaborations
 Yuga Labs takes a cut every time a Bored Ape is resold, Larva Labs doesn’t do
that with CryptoPunks and Meebits. Yuga Labs doesn’t intend to change that,
so they’ll have to figure something else out.
 The Larva Labs marketplace is no fee, so Larva Labs does not get any ongoing
royalties. Larva Labs can only make money from CryptoPunks by
progressively selling down or licensing their IP to others
 Yuga did not keep a large number of apes, but gets royalties on every sale.
 BAYC doesn’t want to repeat Bored Ape’s “membership club” model with
CryptoPunks and Meebits
 The two top NFT (CryptoPunks and BAYC) collections have combined for
over 1,000,000 ETH in total volume traded, which is equivalent to
approximately $2,538,050,000 USD.
 Yuga now controls NFTs with around $5.5 billion in market cap, which could
spark further consolidation in the market for non-fungible collectibles. Bored
Ape Yacht Club is acquiring more than 400 CryptoPunks and 1,700 Meebits
from Larva Labs.

 THE BATHROOM is a collaborative graffiti wall that mimics the chaotic mass
of doodles you might find on a nightclub bathroom stall, where members can
paint 1 pixel every 15 minutes.
 Roughly $2.2 million worth of Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and Mutant
Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) non-fungible tokens (NFTs) were stolen from a
collector. There are claims that the NFT marketplace Opensea froze the
collectibles, and crypto advocates are complaining about the lack of
decentralization.
