You will be able to read and write decimal numbers through ten
thousandths.
Specifically, this module will help you to:
❖ read and write decimal numbers
❖ apply the rules in reading and writing decimals

BRIEF INTRODUCTION

Decimals are just another way of writing fractions whose


denominators are powers of ten and the proper way to read them is the same as
reading the corresponding fractions which they represent. It’s easy to read and
write decimals once you remember the place value of a decimal number. Follow
the steps to make reading and writing of decimals easier.
Steps in Reading Decimals
1. Read the digits to the left of the decimal point as a whole number.
2. Say “and” for the decimal point.
3. Read the digits to the right of the decimal point as a whole number stating
the place value of the last digit.

Steps in Writing Decimals.


1. Simply read the given number words.
2. Write down the number as it is read.
