“Weekend Immersion in Nursing Informatics”

Purpose: This conference focuses on trends and issues in practice facing the
profession and provides a comprehensive examination of nursing informatics theories,
impact of human factors, systems life cycle approach, methods for managing information
databases and information technology overview. The content provides an opportunity to
prepare for the ANCC Nursing Informatics Certification exam and gain nursing informatics
specific contact hour continuing credit.

Target Audience: This conference is designed for nurses who want to expand or clarify
their working knowledge of nursing informatics. Experienced informatics nurses will find
this program helpful as they prepare for the ANCC Nursing Informatics Examination. New
informatics nurses will understand the breadth of knowledge and skills expected of the
role. Nursing Educators and Staff Nurses on implementation teams will particularly benefit
from this course. According to the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, all nurses need
to utilize nursing informatics concepts in their practice.

Registration and Fee: Register by mail or e-mail (see information on registration


form). The registration fee is $560.00 until January 15, 2009; after that date the fee is
$625.00. Enrollment is limited to 50 participants. Registration deadline is March 6, 2009.
The fee includes all course materials, CE documentation, breaks, dinner on the first
evening, two breakfasts and two lunches.

Refunds: Cancellations received by February 28, 2009 will be refunded minus a $75
administrative charge. No refunds will be offered after February 28, 2009. If the event is
canceled, a full refund will be offered.

Hotel Reservations: A block of rooms have been reserved at the Embassy Suites in
Troy/Auburn Hills, MI. Rooms are available for Friday through Saturday nights at a rate of

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE


Continuing Education Credit: This continuing nursing education activity was
approved by Michigan Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American
Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. 16.3 contact hours will be
awarded.

Conference Objectives: At completion of the conference, participants will be able to:


• State a personal goal to attain from the conference.
• Examine theories, models, and frameworks that could be used in healthcare and
nursing informatics practice, education, administration, and research domains.
Discuss local informatics issues through professional networking and personal
problem solving.
• Discuss the Human Factors that affect Nursing Informatics.
• Create and present a brief summary of the workgroup findings and recommendations
associated with the assigned case study.
• Distinguish standards and terminologies that affect the information system life cycle.
• Identify 2 strategies used in the assessment phase to identify and collect pertinent
data and information.
• Describe available hardware, software, and communications components for a
healthcare information management solution.
• Discuss the role of project management, systems analysis and design in planning a
successful system implementation
• Develop a test plan, education plan, and project management plan to implement an
information system.
• Evaluate the implementation of a healthcare IS solution and methods to communicate
the results of the evaluation activities.
• Describe the professional performance activities of an informatics nurse in the life long
learning cycle.
• Assess readiness to complete the ANCC certification for nursing informatics, describe
the initial application and follow-on recertification processes.
• Evaluate WINI and discuss content for future nursing informatics workshops.
