Timeframe
A. Introduction Week 3 Composers make musical forms, which expresses their feelings and ideas.
Panimula They use different symbols that indicate repetitions of some sections.
After going through this lesson, you are expected to use the different
repeated marks in music.

The different repeat marks that are related to forms are:

Dal Segno (D.S.) indicates that the musical piece is to be repeated from the
sign

Da Capo (D.C.) indicates that the musical piece is to be repeated from the
beginning of the composition.

Da Capo and Dal Segno have the same purpose in repeating the particular
sections except in the exact places where to begin. They also end with the
word “Fine”.

D.C. (da capo) Al Fine means that the section is to be repeated from the
beginning up to the word “Fine” or end.

Other symbols are illustrated below:

The illustrated symbol means that the music is to be repeated from the
beginning.

The above symbol


means that the passages between the marks are to be repeated.

Learning Task 1: Study and copy the excerpt of a musical piece below in your
music writing notebook. Encircle the different symbols you may see in the
piece. Write also the definitions of the symbols used.
B. Development Learning Task 2: Match column A with column B. Write the correct letter on
Pagpapaunlad the space provided. Do this in your notebook.
