First of all I would like to express my special thanks & graditute to our respected
teachers & collage management committee of our Agro- forestry Polytechnic
institute including our principal Dr. Raju Bhusal sir ,our course coordinator Dr.
Subhas Belbase sir, instructor Dr. Sandeep Bhattrai sir , Dr. Mukesh GC sir & field
instructor Bhirkuti mam & Bijay sir and other teachers to provide very important
knowledges , time & inspired to make us a qualified technician by providing very
pleasant and comfortable environment for studying 3 years of course of Diploma
in Agriculture ( Animal science) .

Introduction:-
Nepal is Agriculture based country. Among 27.5 million Nepalese around 65.6% are depends on
Agriculture for their livelihood. The agriculture sectors contributes approximately 35% of GDP
( Gross Domestic Products) , in that around 24% of GDP is contributed by livestock and poultry
.In around 87% of Nepalese people rears any one types of livestock (animal). So, animal
production has very significant contribution in uplifting the rural and urban economy with the
huge potential of generating the employment. So animal science has a vital scope and
important aspect in the context of developing countries like Nepal. Generating
entrepreneurship by providing technical skills , knowledge and competent manpower has
always been the major objectives or concern of Council for Technical Education and Vocational
Training ( CTEVT) , established 1989 AD ( 2045 BS). Agroforestry polytechnic institute, the
public TEVT institute, established in 2017 AD as a constituent collage of CTEVT in CHHATRADEV
rural municipality-04 Arghakhanchi is running Diploma/ Isc (3 year) course in Animal science
and plant science. Since the establishment of AFPI it always assured its academic as well as
managerial excellence in both academic and short term training with excellent positive impact.
Rationale of WEP :-
Limitations/ challenges of WEP :-
Lack of necessary laboratory equipments.
Lack of infrastructure like Trevis , Dipping Tank etc.
Insufficient medicines, drugs, chemicals,and mechanical instrument for treatment.
Superstitious farmers with inadequate knowledge.
Insufficient publicity of vet clinic of AFPI .
Objectives:-
a) Gross objective:-
The objectives of the WEP is to make students familiar with/ gain firsthand experience
of the world of work as well as to provide them an opportunity to gain skills that are
new or not covered in the institute .
b) Specific objectives :-
- To be familiar with practical experience of official job .
- To emplement the learning in the work .
- To develop technical knowledge and skills.
- To learn to creat harmony , and work in a group .
- To fence and defend challenges in the practical work.
- To prepare student for real works .

Work nature :-
We involve in treatment of sick animal , dissecting and teaching of juniors, handling of cattle
buffalo, casting , handling of small anima , careing , feeding and other manegment of poultry
.Disinfection and cleaning of cattle farm, goat farm poultry farm ,health monitoring, lab test
including fecal test, cleaning of lab and lab equipment ,record keeping, cultivation of fodder and
forage grasses for livestock. Cleaning weeding of fish pound , weeding in the fodder plant,
nursery preparing of different fodder grasses, field visiting of the nearest farm . Farm yard
mannure management , vaccination of poultry, deworming, dehorning, debeaking, hoof
trimming , drainage management , decorations by ornamental plant , cooperating with plant
science student etc.
Major activities:-
1st Month:-
Major activities done in first month are listed below :-
1. Orientation class of WEP.
2. Seed collection and nursery preparation of ipil- ipil, mulberry fodder etc.
3. Regular feeding ,care and management of Broiler ( poultry project).
4. Shearing of sheep and wool collection.
5. Post mortem of poultry – Salmonellosis
6. Treatment of mastitis in buffalo.
7. Marketing of poultry .
8. Weeding and cleaning of field and pound .
9. Wound dressing .
2nd Month:-
Major activities of second month are listed below:-
1. Poultry farm cleaning, mannure management & disinfection.
2. Feacal examination.
3. Ipil- ipil & Mulberry plant plantation & monitoring.
4. Laboratory and all farm ( Goat, cattle buffalo, stable) cleaned and
disinfection.
5. Control external parasite ( ticks,lice,flae) cattle buffalo and goat.
6. Treated food poisoning in goat.
7. Notching of bull buffalo.
8. Farm visited and fowl pox treated.
9. Monitoring the health of fish and feeding regularly.
10. Facture treatment in calf.
3rdMonth:-
Major activities of the third month are listed below:-
1. Disinfected farm, manage Biosecurity, Brooding management to prepare farm for layers
chicks stocking.
2. Regular care & Management of layers.
3. Feacal examination .
4. Care & management of newborn kids and pregnant ewe.
5. Deworming in the all farm and record keeping.
6. Hoof trimming and Dehorning of goat and buffalo.
7. Debeaking of layers.
8. Vaccination of layers
9. Wound treatment and dressing in different animal.
10. Involved in prolapse cases of Buffalo.
11. CMT test and treatment of prepartum mastitis
12. Treatment of FMD in buffalo.
13. Blood collection from sheep, goat, cattle, and buffalo.
4th Month:-
Major activities of fourth month are listed below:-
1. Field preparation & swing of Sudan grass and plantation of supernepier .
2. Fecal examination.
3. Regular care and management of layers.
4. Farm visited.
5. Involved in distokiya of buffalo.
6. Endo & ecto parasite controll in goats.
7. Treatment of Fowl pox in layers and vaccination.
8. Postmortem examination in layers birds.
9. Treatment of Foot rot in Govinda’s buffalo.
10. Wound dressing .
11. Casting Cattle and buffalo by using different techniques.
12. Dissection of fish and poultry.
13. Castration of buck by Brudizzo castrater.
Poultry project:-
Agroforestry polytechnic institute ( AFPI) collaborated with Prime Minister Agriculture
Modernizations Project (PMAMP) and set up poultry farm. We all vet students from final year
get involved in first phase of poultry farming as “poultry project” in which we reared Broiler .
We got involved from initial day -01 UpTo the day of marketing and in between this duration
we learnt all the aspects involved in broiler farming and rearing. After then we all the WEP
students are involved in the layers farming in this farm from day 01upto the end of the WEP.
Achievement:-
We get opportunity to handle poultry production project and familiar with the regular
activities of poultry production.
We acquired knowledge on diagnosis and treatment of diseases of livestock and
poultry.
We acquired knowledge and learnt skills to handling and treat animal.
We become able to identifing various drugs and use them in correct dose .
We get opportunity to experience laboratory work
We get opportunity to involve in fish farming.
We acquired knowledge on nursery preparation and fodder production.
Conclusion:-
We completed our 4 months of Work Experience Program under the Agroforestry polytechnic
institute in animal science farm, clinic and laboratory. We also get participant in poultry project.
Hence, we were able familiar with various aspects of poultry production, livestock production,
diagnosis of diseases , postmortem examination, treatment and other manegmental operation
along with the strong knowledge on disease diagnosis and treatment .
