Questions:

1. Are there other principles not applied by the teacher nor listed in the table? If yes write them on the 4
space provided.

One of the principles listed above was not employed in the class which is the “effective
learning begins with the setting of clear and high expectations of learning outcomes.” Aside from
the first principle mentioned above, the teacher managed to employ and achieve the goal of all the
principles of learning.

2. What skills are developed/enhanced during the learning process?

We observed that there are some skills that students developed/enhanced during the
learning process, and these are the following:
Critical thinking. The student’s critical thinking skills have been enhanced when they were asked
to determine if the sequence considered to be arithmetic or not, to find the common difference as
well as the terms of the sequence. Also, the students were asked on how they come up with their
answers.
Creative thinking specifically the questioning. Based on what was observed, some of the
students asked their teacher for clarifications or seek an information that helps them to further
deepen their understanding of the lesson.
Communication skills especially listening actively and speaking. An interactive discussion was
maintained since students were allowed to speak up and express their ideas at a given time.

3. What did the teacher do to enhanced/developed the needed skills?

The teacher is fully aware that pedagogical content knowledge is the central of teaching
effectiveness. Below are the notable acts of the teacher that were observed in the class:
 The teacher appropriately utilized teaching-learning activities that contributes to the
development and enhancement of learning skills needed by each of the students. He made
used of visualization strategy in which the students’ task is to identify the images found in
the nature that has a great relevance in the lesson
 The teacher let the students think instead of laying out the facts and answers in front of the
students. He posed ‘how’ and ‘why’ questions to help students analyze the given problem
which is an essential way of developing the critical thinking of the students.
 The teacher also considered that the students have their own pace of learning. He slowed
down in discussing the problems and or concepts when he had to and repeated discussing
the unclear concepts using a mode or technique that allowed it to be understood easier.
 The teacher demonstrated the step-by-step process of problem solving which could help
the students fully comprehend the nature of the topic.

4. What communication skills were utilized by the teacher during the teaching-learning
process?

The teacher has a clear, well-modulated, and excellent tone of voice that enables the students
understand the lesson clearly and properly. Also, the teacher has the ability to radiates positive ambiance

process, he always acknowledged the students’ ideas and concerns and provides an instant feedback.
The teacher also shows fair treatment to each students. Lastly, we observed that the teacher used
minimal gestures and appropriate facial expressions necessary to express his ideas and not to make
some distractions for the students.
During the teaching-learning process, the teacher utilized two medium in delivering the lesson:
one is the use of Powerpoint Presentation and the other one is solving manually in a whiteboard. The
content or text in the powerpoint presentation and the teacher’s handwriting was readable and easy to
understand. It was catchy in the eyes, most especially that there were pictures presented. Turn taking
was also observed. In addition, the teacher utilized English and Filipino as the medium of instruction.

or attach proof/s below the column of either inductive method of teaching or deductive
method of teaching.

Procedure Strategy/Technique
Motivation An inductive approach was utilized by the teacher in motivation. He
presented black and white pictures found in nature and let the students
identify those. The colored version of the pictures was revealed when
the students recognized it successfully in which they noticed the
patterns afterwards.
Presentation of the lesson Things that can be seen in the environment, which are also shown in the
pictures presented in the motivation, were used by the teacher to lead
the students towards the topic to be discussed. He explained what does
each pictures illustrates and how does it is relevant to the lesson, which
is patterns and sequence.
Development of the lesson The teacher utilized both technology and instructional material (white
board) to deliver the substance of the lesson. The teacher started with the
basic concepts which includes the definition of terms and explaining the
variables used to denote the terms. A derivation of the equation was also
conducted for the students to understand how it was formulated. After
that, simple to complex problems were presented. The teacher showed
the step-by-step process on how to solve those problems. Students were
asked questions from time to time.

Generalization/ Closure/ Drawing

insights The teacher wasn’t able to give a generalization because there is no
enough time.

Enrichment/ Application/Fixing Skills

The teacher wasn’t able to give an enrichment or supplemental activities
to the students because there is no enough time to conduct such
activity.

Assessment/evaluation
An assessment or evaluation was not employed due to two reasons.
First is the lack of time and second is that the discussion of the topic is
not yet finished and is set to be continued in the next meeting.

Agreement/Assignment The teacher gave 10 items as an assignment and provides a clear

Answer the following questions:

Answer the following questions:
Are the learning principles applied by the teacher appropriate with the nature of the learners and learning learning
conditions? Why/Why not?
Yes, all of us in our group believe that the learning principles applied by the teacher are appropriate with the nature
of the learners and learning conditions it is because of several reasons. First, the teacher kept the discussion interactive
which stimulated the positive behavior of the students resulting to active participation. For an instance, the principle
“learning is an active process” is evidently displayed in the class in such a way the teacher help the students to learn on
how to learn not just only what they need to learn. Second, he acknowledge the diversity of learners, recognized the
learning pace of the students and assured them that they do not have to feel bad if they couldn’t master the concepts
immediately. Third, he used different strategies in teaching which addresses the diversity of the problems. Lastly, he
provided an alternative plan to make the discussion a lot easier for the students to understand.

Did you observed passive learners? If yes, what might be their reasons why they are passive/silent?

All of us have observed passive learners. Since it is an online class, most of us think that the poor internet
connection is one of the possible reason. Other reasons are: students are not interested with the topic, others are shy
and still need confidence to answer because the worry of the embarrassment they will get when they give the wrong
answer, because of timidity, or simply because they do not pay attention at all.

Are the communication strategies used by the teacher appropriate to the level of the learners? Justify?

All of the members of our group agreed that the communication strategies used by the teacher are appropriate to
the level of the learners. These communication strategies resulted to the active participation of the students. They are
able to answer the questions because they understand what has been taught. In addition, since the teacher has a friendly
approach in teaching the students, learners were able to expressed their ideas. He does not scold students who are
struggling with identifying the correct answer in the problems but display patience and ask other students to help their
classmates rather. He makes students feel comfortable and unafraid to say things like “sir, I did not understand this part”
or “sir, I’m having a difficulty following the discussion. Can we take it slow?” Also, the teacher’s clear and well-modulated
voice contribute greatly during the teaching-learning process.

4 If you are the teacher, what possible learning principle(s) and strategy(ies) would you apply to elicit meaningful
learning?
9
As much as possible we have to utilize all the learning principles listed above because all of it will elicit meaningful
learning. As for the strategies, we should make use more of an inquiry-based approach because I want the learners
to derive their own meaning about the lesson. Additionally, employ a collaborative approach wherein the students can
work with their peers because meaningful learning occurs when you work with other people. Another, give the students
more inspiring lessons, allot enough time to their work and respect their different talents and ways of learning.

Reflect

1. Among the principles of learning, which one is the most important for you? Substantiate your
answer.
In our group, there are four principles of learning that we believe is the most important.
Effective learning begins with the setting of clear and high expectations of learning outcomes. Majority
of the group believe that this principle is the most important one. It is very important that before a teacher starts
the lesson, the target or end goal must be identified because this will serve as guide throughout the discussion. By
setting the objectives, learning will be precise because you already have a clear goal and know what to expect
during the discussion.
Learning is an active process. Students should not be like a sponge that just absorbs water because they
will be passive learners. Students must be actively engage in the teaching-learning process and must be encourage
to do meaningful learning activities to be an active recipient of new knowledge and skills. Students must learn how
to learn not just what they need to learn. In simple words, letting students to construct their own meaning can
improve their learning. In this way, students might be encourage to do tasks promoting the development and
enhancement of their higher order thinking skills. Because you're participating in the discussion rather than just
listening to it, you'll remember more and have a better comprehension of the material.
Acquiring and applying habits of mind improves learning performance. You should practice yourself to
engage more by practicing solving problem to enhance your performance when it comes to learning.
Learning is stronger and more permanent in a positive emotional climate. Setting a positive emotional
climate among the students will make learning active. Learners will be encourage to express ideas without worrying
of the embarrassment. In simple words, if the teacher established sympathy, the learners will feel safe to participate
and immersed to the discussion, therefore, learning will be stronger and permanent because they experienced it
firsthand.

2. What insight did you learn from the class activities that you have observed? 10

➢ Being aware on the importance of pedagogical content knowledge is the key to an effective teaching.
It is important that every teacher must have a professional knowledge (mastery of the subject matter)
to be able to set a clear and high expectations of intended learning outcomes and prepare an
effective instruction and communication strategies that contributes to the students’ progress.
➢ Mastery of your topic is very important for you as a teacher to deliver the lesson properly and also
we have to plan strategies that is effective in this kind of situation. We have to consider all factors
that affecting us and plan for the betterment of the student as well as you as their teacher.
➢ It is very important to make your students feel safe and comfortable around you. Teachers must be
approachable enough to make students be expressive on their ideas and queries or concerns.
➢ Basic concepts must be introduced first, making sure that the students understand the terms involve
in the lesson. If a derivation is possible, then better to show it in class to help them appreciate and
understand more the subject matter.
➢ It's critical to have a voice that's well-modulated, clear, and understandable. The significance of
student engagement in class, as well as the relevance of soliciting their comments and suggestions,
as well as determining whether or not they comprehend the content.
➢ Use example in real-life because it can easily catch the attention of the students.
➢ Class activities is important on how you to engage the student to learn and to boost their interest.
➢ Patience is important in helping our students to learn because not all students learn fast. From time
to time ask for their concerns or questions.
➢ With regards to the strategy in delivering the topic, it is important that you have an alternatives ready.
In case the student was not able to grasp easily the lesson through the use of technology, you can
show the solution manually with whiteboard or try other methods that will make it easier to
understand.
