NAME: Emmanuel Kayode CLASS: JS2
TOPIC: The computer system DURATION OF LESSON: 80mins AVERAGE AGE: 12yrs +

A. BEHAVIORAL OBJECTIVES (Cognitive, Affective and Psychomotor)


At the end of the lesson students should be able to:
i. State the definition of a computer
ii. Explain the meaning of computer system, using diagrams
iii. Identify the components of a computer system and their respective functions

B. INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS:
The computer systems in the ICT lab, the Internet, students’ textbooks and printed notes

C. PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE:
The students can identify the computer parts from the previous class.

D. INTRODUCTION:
Ask questions on previous topic and call on students to answer:
i. Mention the computers parts that you know and their respective uses/functions.

E. PRESENTATION (Step by step exposition of the material):

i. The teacher gives various definitions of a computer, identifying the keywords to the students.
ii. He defines the meaning of a computer system to the students, pointing out the keywords.
iii. He mentions and briefly explains the components of the computer system.
iv. He mentions the parts of the physical component (hardware) of the computer system, displaying them
to the students for visual identification.
v. He explains and demonstrates the uses/functions of each physical part of the computer.

F. CONTEXTUALIZATION (of the materials of the classroom situation)

The students would be able to identify physical and nonphysical components of the computer
system.
G. STUDENTS’ ENGAGEMENT IN THE LESSON:
The students defined the computer according to their individual understanding, as well as the
meaning of the computer system. They also identified the different components of the computer
system, as well as their uses/functions.

H. REVIEW (By teachers and students of familiar material):

Both teacher and students reiterate the key points and terms from the student’s text and notes.

I. EVALUATION QUESTIONS (in three learning domains—cognitive, affective,


psychomotor):
The teacher will ask the students the following questions;
i. What can you say about a computer?
ii. Why is the computer referred to as a system?
iii. Identify the main components of the computer.
iv. Outline and state the uses/functions the computer physical parts
v. Demonstrate the function/use of each part

J. CONCLUSION:
The teacher ends the lesson by reemphasizing the terms frequently mentioned during the lesson.

i. Describe the term hardware, software, people ware


ii. Explain the relationship between hardware, software and people ware.
iii. Take a class Exercise on this topic

B. INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS:

The computer in the laboratory, internet resources, students’ textbook and printed notes.

C. PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE
The students can identify the components of the computer system.

D. INTRODUCTION:
Ask questions on previous topic and call on students to answer:
i. What are the main components of the computer system?

E. PRESENTATION (Step by step exposition of the material)

i. The components of the computer are highlighted and discussed in details


ii. The students are asked to discuss the relationship between the components of the
computer.
iii. The students would asked some questions which will serve as their class exercise.

F. CONTEXTUALIZATION (of the materials of the classroom situation)


The students would be able to visualize the reasons behind the smooth running of
the computer system.

G. STUDENTS’ ENGAGEMENT IN THE LESSON:

The students engaged in small group discussions on the possible functions of each
component of the computer.

H. REVIEW (By teachers and students of familiar material)

Both teacher and students discuss on the relationship between the components of
the computer.

J. EVALUATION QUESTIONS (in three learning domains—cognitive, affective,


psychomotor):
The teacher will ask the students the following questions;
i. Identify the components of the computer.
ii. Which component is least important?

J. CONCLUSION:
The teacher goes over the lesson paying more attention to main ideas in the topic.
A class Exercise is then administered.

ii. Give examples of each type of computer software

C. PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE
The students can identify the uses of the components of the computer.

D. INTRODUCTION:
Ask questions on previous topic and call on students to answer:
i. Which component of the computer is most important?

E. PRESENTATION (Step by step exposition of the material)

i. Both teacher and student defines the term” Computer software”


ii. The classes in which software are categorized into is highlighted.
iii. The functions and examples of each type of software is discussed.
F. CONTEXTUALIZATION (of the materials of the classroom situation)

The students would be able to explain and visualize reasons behind the processing
abilities of computers and other devices.

G. STUDENTS’ ENGAGEMENT IN THE LESSON:

The students engaged contributed individually to the definition and explanations of


some concepts during the course of the lesson.

H. REVIEW (By teachers and students of familiar material)

Both teacher and students support the concept with some points from the students’
text and notes.

i. The teacher defines an operating system and explains further how it functions.
ii. The types and examples of operating systems are highlighted.
iii. The functions of operating systems are reviewed

The students would be able to visualize the need for a lead software on
computerized devices.

The students engaged in small group discussions on the possible functions of an


operating system.
