SBA GUIDELINES

PROJECT TITLE - (1 mark): Title should be clear and concise and relates to a real-world problem.

INTRODUCTION – (3 marks)
The introduction speaks to three areas:

1) A synopsis of the issue to be investigated – speak briefly about the issue

2) Rationale – what’s your interest in the topic/ why did you choose to do the topic

3) Objectives – what do you expect to learn/discover from carrying out the investigation

METHOD OF DATA COLLECTION (2 marks)


1) Clearly explain how to data will be collected. Be sure to answer how, what when, why,
where data was collected.

2) Should include sample size, instrument/method used: questionnaire, survey, interview,


observation, experiment, etc.

PRESENTATION OF DATA (5 marks)


1) Tables and graphs are used to present the data collected for the investigation

2) The data collected and presented must be relevant to the research objectives stated in the
Introduction.

3) Diagrams are correctly labelled, appropriate for the information and reflect true and
relevant data.

4) Accurate use of mathematics concepts to present data.

ANALYSIS OF DATA (2 marks)


This is an explanation of the data presented

1) What is the description of the data presented?

2) Are there any trends or patterns observed?


DISCUSSION OF FINDINGS (2 marks)
1) Interpretation of data in relation to the objectives outlined in introduction

2) This is the justification of findings from the data analysis

CONCLUSION (2 marks)
1) This is a summary of the entire project/investigation. NO NEW IDEAS SHOULD BE
INTRODUCED

2) The introduction must give an answer for the objectives of the project.

ORGANIZATION OF PROJECT (3 marks)


1) Cover Page – should have relevant information (name, candidate #, centre, centre #,
teacher, territory and year of examination)

2) Content page – correctly formulated with page titles and page numbers

3) Appendix – all mathematical procedures used and evidence of investigation processes

4) Language – appropriate and correct use of the English language

SBA is marked out of 20.
