Consulate General of Canada

Dear Sir/Madam,

Introduction:

“No business in the world has ever made more money with poorer management.” – Bill Terry

My name is Ishan Vikramkumar Thakkar. I am staying with my family in Ahmedabad, Gujarat (India).
Through this statement, I intend to explain the circumstances, reasons and expected study outcomes for
choosing to study a postgraduate program in Global Business Management at Loyalist College, Ontario
(Canada).

Mankind has progressed and prospered on the strength of business and trading and the era of globalization
and competition has opened new avenues for businesses to grow further and expand worldwide. This has led
to a drastic change in need and demand for managers who can work, integrate, understand and manage
different countries, cultures and customers across geographies. Global Business Management is the most
flamboyant management and promising career choice in today’s dynamic world.

I appeared for the IELTS test on 9th May 2021 and secured 7.5 bands overall. Following is the module-

Academic Background:

I hail from a culturally enriched West Indian state called Gujarat. Since my childhood days, I have been
inclined towards academics. I completed secondary schooling in 2010 with 80.15 percentile with distinction
from Gujarat Secondary & Higher secondary education board, India and higher secondary schooling in
the year 2012 from the same board and got an excellent percentile of 94.37. I had a keen interest in business
and management, since the time I first learnt about the fundamentals of business operations. I have studied
subjects like the organization of commerce, statistics, economics and elements of accounts during my
intermediate which provided me with the basic knowledge of the business domain. My interest was very
well reflected in my grades as I scored 83 marks and 70 marks in Business Studies and Accountancy
respectively. I have always tried to keep myself updated with the latest practices followed by successful
businesses. Thus, I decided to pursue a Bachelor of Commerce from Gujarat University. I graduated from
college in 2016 with flying colours.

Here I studied business and management-related unique subjects which excited me and divulged the
limitless portion in the field of business. During my graduation, I became fond of marketing management so
further to keep up with the fast-moving world, I enrolled in Master of Business Administration in
Marketing from the famous Ahmedabad University, India and completed the same program in 2018. In
addition to this, I have been an excellent student in extra co-curricular activities and have participated in
sports, drama and other volunteering programs as well during my time. All of this academic excellence set
strong foundations for me to drive my career in the direction of GBM.

Professional Experience:
Post my graduation, I joined my family business, Sports Zone as a Sales Executive in 2015 wherein I was
responsible for meeting with clients virtually or during sales visits, maintaining accurate records, negotiating
contracts and packages etc. As it was my first job, I was able to expand my knowledge and learn new
practical skills apart from theory. It sharpened my communication skills as well. Considering my dedication
and hard work by seniors, I got a promotion in April 2016 as Senior Sales Executive. Furthermore, I
decided to nurture my skills and thus I enrolled in an MBA program. My college lectures were done by noon
and after that, I continued doing my job as a senior sales executive. Because of that, I learnt a lot about time
management and was able to apply my learnings directly to my family business and gained fruitful results.
Specialized business field experience was gathered doing this and it was the reason for choosing marketing
specialization in masters ahead. After my Master’s in 2018, I got a golden opportunity to work as a Sales
and Marketing Manager in the same business company. I am currently working here and take care of the
tasks like determining annual unit and gross-profit plans by implementing marketing strategies,
analyzing trends and results, establishing sales objectives by forecasting and developing annual sales
quotas for regions and territories and projecting expected sales volume and profit for existing and
new products. It was the first time when I was able to explore my skills and knowledge at a dynamic level.
Recently, we have started dealing with international clients and partners to expand the business. However, I
have started feeling the lack of global managerial knowledge required to manage all the stakeholders
efficiently and effectively. Also, while discussing opportunities with a prospective client I realized that
they expected someone with not just technical but also global level managerial credentials and
proficiency. Although I have gained significant knowledge and expertise from my professional experience
so far, I feel there is still a lack of professional qualifications to cater to the futuristic and dynamic demands
of the business. This understanding of the need for a quality education motivated me to pursue a professional
Global Business Management program which will eventually give a boost to my profile and career.

Need for pursuing Global Business Management:

The world is becoming global very fast where there are no boundaries to stop free trade and communication.
Keeping pace with it, the way we do business has changed in an unprecedented manner. The competition in
the global marketplace is at its peak where all companies want to sell their goods and services to every
possible person, everywhere on the globe. The diversity and plenitude of careers with a business degree
underlies the subject’s appeal for me. After consulting with a couple of my managers and colleagues, I
realized that my existing technical know-how and expertise in this industry covers only a tiny fraction of
this vast field and that the moment I decided to enroll in this course. However, the main reason to pursue
this program is to expand our family business internationally with the help of a new skill-set learned. So
after vigorous research through official websites, discussion with career experts and self-introspection
considering my academics, work experience and passion, I zeroed in on planning a program for myself in
GBM. It will be a boost to my skills, professionalism and will open up new and big opportunities for me
in India and globally as well. All of my responsibilities have made me notice a critical need for a
professional qualification to grow further in my career. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the
demand for global business managers is expected to grow about 11% much faster than the average in the
coming years. The reason why I have chosen Global Business Management is due to my keen interest in
business operations and the inter-country trade and relations of a particular business. With a strong base of
my relevant qualifications and self-realization during my work experience, I feel that this course is the
right fit for me. Through this program, I will be able to learn competitive skills, the latest technologies and
trends through subjects like Culturally Inclusive communication, Supply chain and Logistics,
International Business Law, CSR, Global Merger and negotiations, Risk Management, International
Finance etc. Some of these are fairly new concepts to me and these concepts will help me establish effective
technicalities and will help me develop insights into this field.

Why Loyalist College?

Loyalist College in Belleville offers students the ideal combination of academic excellence, extracurricular
activities and experiences. Its diverse community includes international students from an ever-growing
number of countries around the world. It has a good rank in research colleges of Canada and holds a reputed
position in the top colleges of North America as well. It has sound goodwill because of which it has
remained a popular choice among students from all over the world. They are also offering a vast curriculum
including up-to-date courses that are unique as compared to the mainstream ones offered by other colleges in
Canada. In addition to this, its premium location near my favourite city Toronto is an added advantage and
also an opportunity to explore global work experience.

Need for Studying Abroad:

After getting academic as well as practical experience in India, I was not satisfied with my career
progression that kept on moving very slowly all because of outdated academic curriculum, syllabus majorly
based on theory portion rather than having it practical. Even during my work experience, I found the career
growth is limited due to the lack of an education system. I knew the drawbacks of the Indian university
education system. It takes too long to update the syllabus of university degrees. It is most important for me
to have a practical education system with an updated curriculum. However, there are some high-quality
institutes like IIM, Indian Institute of Business Management & Studies (IIBMS), Narsee Monjee Institute of
Management Studies etc. but seats are few and many candidates, so getting admission in such institutes is
too competitive in nature and time-consuming process. I need to prepare for various entrance exams which
would take around another 6 to 8 months and with such cutthroat competition, it would be difficult to get
final admission. Hence, after having less satisfaction with the University education in India, I began my
search for a good institute in western countries. Based on my academics I was confident that I would be able
to get admission in some of the good institutes whose degrees are recognized globally and have high value
in India.

My interest in developing my business is still not satisfied with an Indian MBA so I decided to pursue a
Global Business Management course from western countries. This is because an Indian MBA is only
helpful if you want to expand domestically but my goal is to develop my business internationally too.

Choosing Canada:

Moving forward to why I chose Canada, lies in the fact that however the demand and job prospects are high
in India because of the huge population and country’s growing requirement but infrastructure and
technology are at the developing stage when it comes to teaching this subject. Here, theoretical knowledge is
imparted whereas less emphasis is given to practical skills which are a must in this sector. This is the age of
globalization, it is crucial to have a broad and refined international outlook. Canada boasts an excellent
cultural atmosphere and developed commercial sector, as well as sophistication in the humanities and areas
of business advancement. In addition to this, India offers less and highly competitive courses which lack
new skills. Therefore, to study world-class education abroad and come back to India for jobs after the
program would be the best fit for me. I choose Canada because it focuses on recent developments and
practical skills. Canada is cost-effective in terms of education and living expenses. It’s also a safe, vibrant
and multicultural country and better when compared with other countries like Australia, the UK etc. in
terms of student satisfaction.

Potential Career Prospects upon return to India:

The scope of Global Business Management is very bright. According to India Brand Equity Foundation
(IBEF), the market is expected to record a CAGR of 16.5 percent and the total industry size is expected to
touch $280 billion in the coming years. This continual growth within the industry is expected to advance at
the rate of 22.87% in the coming years. This will eventually enhance the scope in India paving the way for
plentiful new employment opportunities. This is limited to jobs only, businesses growth internationally has
always been evergreen. Accomplishing a program from an eminent international college will not only
increase my confidence but also build my ability to take up higher and complex challenges at work. It’s said
that an investment in education pays the best interest, keeping in mind this statement I aspire to come back
to India with international qualification and global exposure in hand to execute expansion plans for my
family business. This program would certainly be a boost to the credibility of our company and will help us
attract clients from the North American & European regions. Also, the learning experience at Loyalist and
the global exposure to the global environment will help me and my team members effectively deal with the
global clients and help us scale better. Additionally, I will also open up employment opportunities for myself
in top companies of India like TCS, Amazon, IBM, Nokia, Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited, Reebok
International Limited, Sony, ICICI bank, Axis Bank as advisors, international consultants, managers,
senior executives, export-import handler etc. In such companies, I will get excellent salary packages,
opportunities to advance and even travel the world. Besides that, I am closely knitted with my family and I
would like to be near them so that I can reach them whenever they require me, so coming to India is my
utmost responsibility. I trust myself that I will set strong grounds for my career through this decision and I
have enough confidence in my vision. With the anticipation of a positive response, I am concluding my
letter of motivation.

Financial Ability:

Under the SDS visa category, I have paid my full first-year tuition fees to Loyalist College i.e. 16,950
CAD and also GIC of 10,200 CAD to the bank to cover my living expenses.

I belong to a financially sound family who is willing to sponsor the entire expenses for my study in Canada.

here and own several properties. Additionally, we also have savings in my mother and father’s account
worth 41,667 CAD. My family earns INR 10,000,00 approximately annually which is equivalent to around
