The following activities are designed to reinforce the simple Scripture truth, encourage toddlers’
development, and engage their imaginations and creativity. Choose the ones that will work best
for your child.
SHIELDS & BALLOONS
SUPPLIES: Various shields made out of cardboard,
blown-up balloons
SAY: God is our shield. He protects us! We can
play a game with shields. We can use the shields
to protect us from the balloons! (You may
demonstrate.)
DO: Give your child a shield. Throw the balloons
toward to him/her and see if he/she can shield
himself/herself from the balloons. Show your child
how it’s done! Use expressive language, like “Oh
no! Here comes a balloon! Shield yourself before it
gets you!”

. SUPPLIES: pillows
DO: This activity is meant to help toddlers learn
directions while showing them the meaning of the
PILLOW
word “shield.” Give your child a pillow. Stand in
front of your toddler with a pillow. Put your pillow SHIELDS
up in the air and say “up!” Put your pillow down
on the ground and say “down!” Do this for various
commands (over, behind, high, low). Then put your
pillow in front of you and say “shield!” Repeat
these directional commands over and over until
your child seems to understand that to shield
means to take cover.
