Manila Bay Beach Nourishment Project

1. What can you say about the controversial Manila Bay Beach Nourishment Project?
As a citizen, that may be affected by the decision of the government regarding the
"Manila Bay Beach Nourishment Project", I agree with them for one reason, that is to
rehabilitate Manila Bay. Also, I disagree with them for many reasons. For this reason, I don't
believe that the dolomite will and can help the mental health of the individuals also, to keep the
Manila Bay to be clean. And as mention in the case, many people wanted to have their pictures
at Manila Bay. This happened in the middle of the pandemic and quarantine, where there are a
lot of restrictions that people needed to comply with. But, people did not even hesitate to go to
Manila Bay, just to see the white and take pictures.

And besides, how can the government be a hundred percent sure that the "dolomite" can help to
prevent Manila Bay from being damaged again? Let's say that once the restrictions, the travel
ban is lifted, the "man-made white beach sand in the middle of the city" can and would be one
of the tourist spots in the Philippines. It will help to boost our tourism. But, how can they assure
that, when all the tourist visits the Manila Bay Beach, it will still be clean? Due to a lot of people
visiting, they can't avoid those people from damaging again Manila Bay, by throwing or leaving
their garbage there. And also, there are few stores or establishments around the area, there
might be an incident that the people will just throw their waste at the beach, like on what
happened to Boracay.

2. If you are the members of the DENR, what would be your proposal for the rehabilitation of
Manila Bay and help boost local and international tourism? Discuss in detail
If I am one of the members of DENR, and I am one of those people who can propose for
the rehabilitation of the Manila Bay. I recommend that we'll focus on making Manila Bay back to
its former beauty without putting artificial white sand that can harm people's health and marine
wildlife. The Manila Bay is beautiful as it is, it just needed to be clean. My mother said that
before when the bay is still clean, there are people who swim at Manila Bay. The Manila Bay can
still be a "beach" without putting those "dolomites". Also, as one of the members of the DENR,
we are responsible to assure and taking care of nature. But, why did the DENR approve using
dolomite? Dolomite came from a mine in Cebu, they harm the mountains, our mother nature.
That's why I will suggest and try my best to convince them that putting dolomite in Manila Bay
won't do anything well. It could work at first, but they/we can't assure that it won't damage
Manila Bay more. But, if we just focus on keeping Manila Bay clean as it is, we did not waste a
large amount of money, we also did not harm anything especially the people, the marine
wildlife, and nature. Having a natural-made tourist attraction will help to boost local and
international tourism. Most people much prefer natural beauty-made attractions because it
gives a different feeling than the man-made. Also, a natural-made attraction can and will last
longer than man-made. And also, what makes a place beautiful? It's memories. The memories
on how it builds, the history of the place, and the good memories that shared in that place.
