CADD Standards

2.8.1 ECS 1-1-4 describes the formats and general structure that must be used in preparing
all CADD drawings.

PIPING AND INSTRUMENTATION DIAGRAM (P&IDS)

3.1 P&IDS are to be laid out using the "D" size format. The bottom zone is reserved for
rotating equipment and their respective identification information. The middle portion
contains all of the other equipment as well as their associated lines. The top zone is
reserved for the identification information of all the equipment located in the middle zone
of the P&ID. The middle zone of the drawing is the "pipe alley" containing lines which
enter and leave the sheet, plus lines running between rotating equipment and other
pieces of equipment on the drawings.

3.2 The left and right margins of the drawings will have arrows at the end of the pipe alleys
for match line drawing number identification, in which the connecting drawing number
will be indicated.

3.3 Notes that apply to a P&ID are located in the upper right hand corner of the P&ID sheet;
this area is to be left open for this purpose.

3.4 On all Utility Distribution P&IDs, the header and sub-headers shall follow the layout of
pipe racks. This layout (not to scale) shall indicate all areas, equipment and individual
branches in their relative geographic locations.

Lines

3.5.1 Primary lines shall be drawn "heavy" and secondary lines shall be drawn "light".
Secondary lines shall be broken to cross primary lines. Horizontal lines shall be broken
to cross vertical lines of equivalent weight. Instrument lines shall be broken when
crossing piping. The P&ID shall be logically arranged to minimize crossed lines.

SPECIFICATION

3.5.2 Generally, all process lines entering and leaving the diagram shall terminate at the left-
hand or right-hand end of the pipe alley with an arrow box. The connecting drawing
number shall be shown in the arrow box. Whenever possible, a line should appear at
the same position in the pipe alley on adjoining diagrams.

3.5.3 The full line number will be shown on top of the line entering or leaving a drawing. The
service (stream) description and origin/destination will be shown on top of the arrow
boxes entering or leaving the drawing. If the origin/destination is an equipment or
instrument item, show the equipment or instrument number and name. If the
origin/destination is a line, only the process/utility designation, unit designation and
numerical identification need be shown. Line numbering shall be as per ECS 1-1-2.

3.5.4 All utility lines entering or leaving the P&ID shall terminate at any convenient location on
the diagram with a utility service diamond. The utility code is to be indicated outside the
diamond and the connecting utility distribution diagram number is to be inside the
diamond.

Equipment

3.6.1 Equipment shall be drawn in good overall proportion even though they are not
drawn to a fixed scale. P&IDs shall have no more than three major pieces of equipment
per drawing sheet, unless approved by ESSO.

3.6.2 Rotating equipment item numbers and names appear below the equipment base line
with the item number duplicated on or near the equipment at its location on the diagram.
Indicate train designation within each unit (i.e. A, B, C).

3.6.3 Other equipment item numbers and names appear across the top of the diagram with
the item number duplicated on or near the equipment at its location on the diagram.
Indicate train designation with each unit (i.e. A, B, C).

Instrumentation

3.7.1 Instrument interconnection from sheet to sheet shall terminate at any convenient location
with the continuation description and drawing number indicated.

Mandatory Information Required on P&IDs

3.8.1 The P&IDs shall include the information per Table 3, as the minimum requirement.

PIPELINE DRAWINGS

Field Maps

8.1.1 Field Maps show detailed geographical information for a given field or fields. These
maps including locations of all producing wells, reservoir boundaries, facilities, roads,
rivers, towns and villages, and major pipelines. In addition, the maps contain information
regarding topography and terrain, as well as location coordinates (UTM or latitude-
longitude).

8.1.2 The Field Map shall be laid out using a scale large enough to allow clear interpretation of
details. As such, non-standard paper sizes may be utilized as necessary and as
approved by ESSO.

Hydraulic Diagrams

8.2.1 A hydraulic diagram consists of a schematic representation of a particular pipeline

network, and is used to display hydraulic data (pressures, temperatures, flow rates) at
various locations within the system for various design cases, as well as to show physical
data such as pipeline lengths and diameters.

8.2.2 Hydraulic diagrams shall be laid out using the "B" size format (8.5 x 11 in.). The area to
the right of the drawing shall be reserved for a legend and for notes. The remainder of
the page, aside from the title block, shall be reserved for the main portion of the drawing.

8.2.3 The major element of all hydraulic diagrams shall be a system schematic, which is a
sketch of the pipeline system, not necessarily to scale, but approximately spacially
correct. The system schematic may also display major landmarks, such as roads or
rivers, which are relevant to the design of the pipeline system. All wells, facilities and
landmarks shown in the system schematic shall be properly labelled, and all symbols
used shall be identified in the drawing legend. Symbols should be consistent with those
used in the overall field maps.

8.2.4 In addition, any information which is regarded by the originator as being essential for
proper interpretation of the diagrams shall be included as notes on the right hand side of
the drawing.

8.2.5 All hydraulic diagrams shall be categorized in one of two standard formats, as described
below:

a. Type 1 Hydraulic Diagrams shall be employed when the number of separate

design cases to be displayed for a given pipeline system does not exceed five.
In this case, in addition to the common elements described above, the diagram
shall display at minimum, the following information:
• Physical data, including lengths and nominal diameters of all pipelines
• Hydraulic data, including flow rates (m3/h) in all pipeline segments, as well
as pressures (kPa(a)) and temperatures (oC) at all pipeline segment start
and end points.

SPECIFICATION

A Type 1 Hydraulic Diagram shall be used to represent only a single set of

design conditions. For a given pipeline system, a separate diagram must be
prepared for each set of conditions for which hydraulic calculations are
performed.

b. Type 2 Hydraulic Diagrams are more basic than Type 1 diagrams and shall be
employed when the number of separate design cases for a given pipeline system
exceeds five. Essentially, a Type 2 diagram contains only the common elements
described in par. 8.2.3 and 8.2.4. It shall not contain any physical or hydraulic
data. Physical and hydraulic data shall instead be summarized in a table in a
separate document. The table must contain a clear reference to the
corresponding hydraulic diagram, and vice versa. In this way, a single diagram
may correspond to several different hydraulic design cases.

Route Maps

8.3.1 Route Maps shall be produced using both the "B" and "D" size formats. The route maps
shall be linked together by a Key Index map for easy reference. Each route map shall
indicate the following:

a. A profile map.
b. A plan section map to a scale of 1:10000.
c. Centerline Right-of-Way chainage.
d. A land use strip based on information gained from the most current survey data.
e. A construction details strip indicating the pipeline right-of-way configuration, all
roads and water crossings, extents of buoyancy control and casings, etc.
f. A pipe specification strip which specifies the relevant information for the pipelines
within the right-of way.
