Word Count #400 /400 Date December 28, Name Khin Khant Khant Nwe

There comes a point in time in every individual’s life where there will be an unforgettable time. It is something
that is going to be remembered forever and something that I am really proud of. As we all know that
Covid-19 pandemic commenced in the late 2019, it has created social problems such as environmental and climate
impacts, economic breakdown and closure of schools. The earlier health officials can inform close contacts, the lower
the chance of further transmission of the Covid-19 virus. Number of Covid-19 positive patients is increasing every day
as the health department does not have enough staff to do so and therefore, many volunteers are needed.
When I heard that news, I really wanted to help my country and therefore, I joined the contact tracing team from
26 November to 26th December. I had to identify people with whom a Covid-19 patient has interacted within the last
th

two weeks before his symptoms started. By doing so, it reduces the progression of the virus and helps protects our
family and citizens. It allows people to realize that they have to check their health for signs and symptoms of Covid-19.
Though it may seem like an easy work, it actually not only reduces death rate and spreading of virus but also gives
volunteers many experiences, communication skills and knowledge about the virus.
I believe I will be able to apply my experiences which I gained during contact tracing in Community and Regional
Policy Studies Major as it is somewhat related with this program. During my contact tracing days, I had to come up
with solutions to help patients with their complaints. I will be able to share these experiences with students from
around the world and exchange opinions with each other. I intend to use my knowledge about the history, politics and
culture of my country at this program and compare with many other nations. I hope to be able to use my teamwork
skills and communication skills in this program at Ritsumeikan University.
In addition to it, this program will help me develop a leadership and management skills that are essential for my
future career. I look forward to raise the nationwide standard of my country by means of all the skills and knowledge
attained during my study here. I can say that this university will develop, analytical skills and professional
performances and will widen my horizon.

Title Issues facing contemporary society ( Racial discrimination, Poverty and health)

Word Count 568 /600 Date Name Khin Khant Khant Nwe

In the past time, there have always been issues in the world that have threatened society. These concerns are
more pronounced than ever in this time of Covid-19 crisis. In addition to poor health, economic crisis and poverty,
there are many other issues that the society is facing nowadays. These issues are not only found in developing
countries, but also in wealthy ones and the losses of these countries are massive. Because of these problems, people
are suffering from both mental and physical illness. Coronavirus is affecting the mental health of many people.
Increase in distress, anxiety, depression, violence, alcohol use disorders, drug misuse, and feelings of loss can raise a
person’s risks of taking their own lives.
Today, racial discrimination has diminished, but it is still the case in some nations and the inequality between
blacks and whites is still present. Racial discrimination also occurs in large measure through subtle forms of
differential treatment. Such racism has fueled hate speech and bullying. As social media became more widely used,
these kinds of cases became more prevalent between people and therefore, anti-discrimination campaigns are held to
eradicate racism. Young people like us ought to take part in these campaigns for the better future. I am interested in
this issue because this case is happening not just abroad but also in our country and I see inequality and
discrimination among our citizens on a daily basis. I believe every human should have economic rights, social rights,
education rights and the right to cultural and political participation without distinction of any kind, such as race, color,
gender, language and religion.
Our country, Myanmar is facing with immense and multifaceted modern challenges. One third of 50 million people
of Myanmar live in poverty, the majority in rural areas. The nation is fighting against HIV, malnutrition, high infant
mortality rate for children, and violence against women and girls. While Myanmar has substantially reduced its poverty
rate from 48 percent in 2004 to 32 percent in 2015, it still lives in poverty. This excessive distribution of the poor is
largely associated with the restricted scope of health education in Myanmar. In exchange, inadequate health
education resulting in poor health harms the job market and the economy. Many poor villages in Myanmar are
common places for human trafficking and many children are victims of preventable diseases without access to
appropriate medical information. Studies indicate that young people have a poor knowledge about sexual and
reproductive health in Myanmar. Only about 17 percent of young people aged 15-24 have precise awareness of HIV
prevention. If we are able to educate Myanmar citizens, they will obtain safer jobs, increase health literacy, take
preventive health care measures, avoid riskier health behaviors, and demand better quality health services. This is
particularly true for women living in Myanmar. By providing formal or vocational education, appropriate family planning
and prenatal services that can break the cycle of poverty and empower women, this type of education would begin to
provide the necessary knowledge to soon-to be mothers to keep their families, future child and themselves both safer
and healthier.
I believe that CPRS major will be the best fit for me to solve these issues as the curriculum at this major is very
advanced. As the problems that challenge our society increase, the world needs more educated young people and I
want to help my country in one way or another.
