Exercise 1

Identify the nouns in the sentences below and write count nouns as ‘C’ and uncount nouns as
‘UC’, and collective nouns as ‘CN’ above the words.

Exercise 5

Identify nouns, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs and verbs.

There was no one at the new bus-stop when I reached there. I sat down on the

bench to wait for the blue line bus. Suddenly, I heard whimpering noises coming from the green

bushes behind me. I was afraid but curious and decided to investigate. I pushed back the leaves

and saw a box and in it was a small baby! It was screaming loudly. The baby had brown curly

hair and a little pin cushion of a nose. The baby’s lips were blue. I quickly unzipped my wind-

breaker and gently scooped the baby up and placed her in it. Then I held her close to me to

provide some warmth. Her whimpering stopped. I rushed back to the flat nearby to tell my

mother. My mother was greatly surprised to see me at the door and shocked when she saw the

little baby. I blurted out my story from the door.
