Upgrade Instructions
for the
CARESTREAM QC Version 3.2 Software
Purpose: To provide instructions for how to upgrade the CR Systems software application to the
Carestream QC V3.2 software for the following systems:
Important
• Qualified service personnel must do these procedures.
• See the Service Portal for possible updates before doing this installation.
• When doing the procedures in this document, you must use safe work practices and wear the correct personal
protective equipment (for example, safety eyewear) according to your company’s standard operating
procedures.

Pre-installation Procedure
Important
You must review this entire publication before starting the installation.
Important
The CR System software must be installed and operated with administrator privileges.
Note
It is recommended to disable any firewall and anti-virus software before installing this software update.
[1] Extract and open the compressed file and folder.
[2] Select Install Carestream Vita CR System Software and follow the on-screen prompts.
[3] Select the following configuration options:
• Select Table Top or Z-Cart according to whether the unit will be positioned on a flat surface or installed in
a Z-Cart at a 60 ° angle.
• Select the Setup type. The default installation setting is Full System Software.
[4] Click Next to continue.
[5] Click Install.
[6] Click Finish to exit the Installation Wizard.
[7] Click Exit when the installation process is complete.
Note
To avoid WINDOWS error messages while operating the CR System Software, disable or remove C:\Program
Files\Carestream from the anti-virus software scanning routine.
If WINDOWS VISTA or WINDOWS 7 is the operating system, reboot the computer when prompted.
[8] After upgrading the software to Version 3.2, verify that all settings including DICOM, Anatomic and MWL, and
the Patient Database were copied to the corresponding locations for Version 3.2.

Updating the System Software Version
Carestream CR System software Version 3.2 has a new hardware version that must update on the CR System as
Firmware, Motion, and FPGA versions. Complete the following steps to update these versions.
[1] Turn the CR System on.
[2] Click on the Carestream CR System software icon on the computer desktop.
[3] Log on to the CR System as a Technician.
Note
An updated scanner components window identifies that a newer software version was found.
Important
It is important to back up the System configurations and settings should a change to the System configuration or other
issue occur.
[1] Navigate to the C:\Program Files\Carestream\CarestreamCR\GenRad\Bin folder.
[2] In the Bin folder, run the program BackUpRestor.exe. The Backup Restore dialog box is displayed.

[3] Select all the data backup options.
[4] Browse to the desired location to create a new backup folder.
[5] If required, enter a password to protect the backup data.
[6] Click Backup. The message “Backup process has finished successfully” is received when the backup is
complete.
[7] Click the X icon on the top right to exit the Backup Restore dialog box.

Setting Common Send To Destination Buttons
Send To buttons are configured to provide the user with the most commonly used destination selections on the Exam
screen.

Performing System Operation Testing
Perform the following tests to check that the system is operating successfully after the upgrade procedure is
complete.
[1] Start a new study using test for the Study name.
[2] Select Acquire Study.
[3] Perform a full scan cycle to verify the system operation.
[4] Send the image to the PACS, if the Destination is configured.
[5] Send the image to a Printer, if the Destination is configured.
[6] Send the image to the CD/DVD burning station, if the Destination is configured.
