It was Sunday morning December 26th 2004. The day that I would never forget
forever. We went to the beach in Meulaboh, Aceh. Many people were there when I arrived.
When we were enjoying the beautiful sunrise, suddenly we were shocked by a violent
shake in the ground. Everybody in the beach was panic. We soon realized that it was a very
big earthquake although it struck in a very short period of time.
After that, we saw the water going on into the middle of the sea. No wonder if there
were many kinds of fish left behind on the sand. We all seemed to be astonished by the view
until we realized that there was a huge wave coming towards us and destroying everything in
its way.
I did not realize what had happened until I found myself hanging on a branch of a tree

Tornado
What is a tornado?
Tornadoes are known as one of the most damaging disasters. What is the description of
tornadoes? A tornado is a very powerful column of winds which spirals around a center of low
atmospheric pressure. A tornado will look like a large black funnel which hangs down from a
storm cloud.
The name "tornado" derives from the Latin "tonare". It means "to thunder." While the
Spanish developed the word into "tornear" which means "to turn or twist". This is why a tornado
is sometimes called twister or cyclone.
The winds inside a twister can spin around at speeds up to 500 miles an hour, but it usually
travels at roughly 300 miles an hour. This speed twisting makes a tornado the most dangerous
storm.
The average tornado has a diameter of about 200 to 300 yards. The smaller tornadoes are
known as satellite tornadoes. These small offspring, about 50 yards across, can be very fierce and
do lots of damage.
The forming of a tornado can be very quick. Sometimes it can form in a minute or less. A
tornado can travel across the ground at high speeds, then it can suddenly vanish. Most tornadoes
last less than twenty minutes and travel less than 15 miles. However, the super storms sometimes
travel over 100 miles before they are exhausted

I was 12 years old when my family and I moved to a new neighborhood. I was starting
my 6th grade in a new school, with new people and no friends. I was a quiet and shy person, so
I never hung out with the other neighborhood kids. Before school had started, I had met a few
people who were in the same grade as me. After that initial meeting, I never saw them again
until the first day of school.
For the first day of school, I asked my mom to do my hair that morning so it would look
nice. She did my hair in my regular hairstyle, 5 ponytails with the barrettes on the end. I arrived
to school and went into my new classroom. Everyone stopped their conversation to turn and
look at me. I looked around the classroom and noticed that all the females either had their hair
in one ponytail or had it pressed and curled into a style. My hair was styled like the 3rd or 4th
graders at that school. I was so embarrassed that I wanted to cry!
